Isn't why the one gallon Ziploc bag was invented. EZ to slide over the filter from the top and not a drop of oil left it the engine bay. I would venture to say most of the from the top nay sayers have never even tried it that way.

People just like to buy special tools for one. YES I do slip a one gallon around my filters before pulling it up and out.

WHY does Cummins recommend pre filling???

Off the rails again! :eek::p:D

WHY U say this? Because people have different ways to do things?

I think a lot of these thru the fender is just being stubborn. Remember when I did my EZ oil change thread the sky was falling because the turbo was exposed. BUT if I had not done so the wear on the boost hose would have worn thru and left me along side of the road.

ONLY reason to use the zip loc is if you are impatient and remove the filter before is has drained back. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.

14 you must let your drain back before removing???

Now days on the new trucks its def. Rear hitches and thru the fender oil filter changes someday there will be real problems when they start to get old and have real problems. Enjoy the moment

I like to let it drain for awhile , so I don’t have to add 11*2/3 quarts. :D:eek:. I’m never in a rush changing the oil , there are times it will drain for a few hours . Especially when I do the fuel filters or other stuff .

And a comment about you mentioning stubborn, I can say I changed it thru the top once or twice , I much prefer thru the fender, with my SPECIAL TOOL. ;)We buy special tools for a variety of things , no big deal .I think you got stubborn mixed up , you are the one that insists that the way you do it is better , yet have never done it any other way, and no matter how many times you hear it you still don’t believe what we say , that’s definition of stubborn .

I go thru the wheel well, always have. I remove with the ziploc on the old filter and install prefilled new filter with nothing on it. I’ve never spilled any oil. This way is so easy there’s no reason for me to even try the top method.

So you pre fill with with one quart no cap and push prefilled filter thru the hole without spilling?

I stop filling the filter when it’s about an inch from the threads. You have to be pretty quick about it, but so far I’ve gotten it every time. Maybe next time will be different, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

yes, I do. I run the oil through a filter and put the removal cap back on, place the filter in the hole sitting on top of an old t-shirt, remove the cap and screw on the filter. All while sitting comfortably on my short stool.

Same way I do , an old towel in the cavity for it to sit on , remove the cap ,and screw the filter on . Although I just lean over the tire being turned to the left .

I've done it both ways, I prefer the fender.....but, we've all said these same things before, yet here we are, again.

What you don’t hear , or maybe I’ve missed it , the ones that have done it both ways , and prefer thru the top . It’s usually the other way around . And of course the stubborn that only see it one way . But yes here we are again .

I see someone has cut the wheelhouse liner out a bit mostly higher about a 1/2 inch. He had big hands and it helped

That brings me to the question - why do you even care about that?
I mean no offense but you stated more then once that you can't do maintenance by yourself anymore and leave it to your "Indy" to have it done.
I mean it's fun to discuss that topic over and over again every other month or so...:D
