We passed up a 96 Model 27' that was in new condition this summer. The only thing about it was the basic arrangement. With the newer ones having a slide out and offering dbl the room length for length. So far my wife does not like the bathroom arrangement the 5ver's have vs the ones the TT have. Meaning you have a real door to the bathroom area vs most 5ver's have exposed bath areas to the master bedroom. Not in all cases but most of them we have looked at (including the HR's) However we have not seen ANY trailers we like better than this brand. I am sure they are out there but the ones we have seen locally and at the shows its always come down to the HR's.

The 5ver's while I agree they will park and turn in smaller areas I do not like the height of them secondly, functionally its may be the smarter buy though. We have been looking at the 31' Alumascape's and really like the front bedroom with rear living area and slideout. (Single Slide only) If the bath arrangement were more standalone from the master bedroom we would consider a 5ver. pricing being similar if not equal. I presently own an 01 2500 QC SLT Cummins SB. Not a LB so another reason for me to consider the TT vs the 5ver.

Thanks for the comment

Preference (as in wife?)

David,

Our rig has a front kitchen, single slide, and bedroom in back. Since its's a custom model, it came with wood floors in the kitchen, plus some other stuff that I have since forgotten (or taken forgranted). My wife loves the layout.

BTW, we purchased the unit used back in 98 when we were ready to sign for a 31' model. The rig was just traded in by an older couple (non smokers and very detail oriented) that upgraded to an Imperial 5ver. Was on the lot 3 days before we arrived. By comparison, we saved about 15K on a clean/immaculate 96 vs. a 98. And I'm also inclined to stick with a single aluminum roof vs. rubber which HR adopted in 99.

Like yourself, we prefer the TT over a 5ver because of the overall height for a variety of personal reasons. Also, we did ton's of "looking" at different manufacturer's with comparable rigs for almost a year but kept coming back to HR.

If we win the "lotto" and ever decide to upgrade to a 5ver for fulltime living, guess I'll also consider an Alpha as well as the new HR Presidential. Oh yeah, I'll also upgrade to a 3500 HO, 6 speed.

After all, its only money!!!!! If you haven't done so, check out www.irv2.com for additional info. Several members on this board is very active on irv2 as well.

Good luck on your search.

Thanks for the response. The arrangement you all have is a good one. I guess if we were to really jump off the deep end a 1 ton might be the way to go but not right now. I work for a school district and in and out of a LOT of parking lots that simply do not have the space for a LWB 1 ton model. ITS WAY too much truck for me to drive around and owning three vehicles, one for work and one for play is not justifiable. Not to mention no place to park a third (would be four) I have one more rugrat left at home who will be driving in the near future. We went to the Local HR Dealer and they had two brand new 99' model Alumascapes TT (31 footers) on their lot that had close to 8k+ options trying to sell us on. Neither of them were slide models. After looking at a living/kitchen area slide and the space they add its difficult to consider a non-slide model.

I remember living in a tt (nonslide) for a summer and how cramped it was. You were either sitting or standing in someone's way. There was simply no place to be and especially so if it were raining outside! So I have prevailed on the wife to consider only a slideout.

Regards

David
