This is completely unheard of. Without exaggeration, there are 25 year old Dodges pulling loads heavier than yours every day around this country. I hope this doesn't sway you away from another one....but after the problems you've had I couldn't blame you if you did.

Please keep us updated on what you decide to do going forward.

Thank you. Will do. I'm definitely scratching my head too. I was convinced it was the shift linkage. And yes it was mis-adjusted but apparently there's more to this problem. Oddly enough the failure today was not nearly as violent. No grinding txfr case gears. Just a loud pop sound followed by no drive train. I pulled off the road. After 15 minutes of engine idling I was able to get it shifted into 4L and limp home. No gears in 2H or 4H. I could also smell some burning transmission fluid. No leaks.
Maybe the transmission is the problem IDK. It seems to downshift going downhill with a load in tow haul mode abruptly. Enough to jump the txfr case out of gear ? Dont have enough experience with Ram to know if this is normal.

Regardless I'm still interested in owning a Ram. Love the Cummins engine.

SCF, if you keep stirring the case its goona stink up...

SCF ,I have been 100% correct in your case..My advice now, is to stop and move on.

Remember these two statements.

We are out of Stock.
We are booked for 3+ weeks.

Every time you contact FCA you are sticking the stick in the Dog poop. The record will be visible to any service dept.

Now what do you think he should do?

Wow., this really set a bunch of us back in our seats. I guess the best advice we gave you is to load and go. Bringing to a head this soon really helped your case for a new truck. Good luck with the new truck and please keep us posted.

Cheers, Ron

Damn good thing he didn't cast the lawyers net, Because No buyback would happen, it would be tie up in litigation.

FCA will reimburse for the loses incur at title change or buy out.

Dealer is pushing me towards a 3500 with Aisin. Seems overkill. Bigger is better? The reality is the 3500 Aisin single rear wheel is rated a tad less than my 2500, 17,390 lbs vs 17,500 lbs.

Also with a 3500 I'll have to pay the price difference. Hopefully FCA will sell it at cost to me and pay the dealer hold back etc. Doubtful...

10K GVWR 2500 vs 11,700 SB and 12,300 LB 3500, both the 17390 or 17500 would be hard to do without exceeding the RGAWR.

2500 vs. 3500. Same transfer case, right?
This recommendation makes no sense to me.
I wound up with a 3500 because it had what I wanted and was in stock.

Yes same transfer case. At this point the transmission is becoming suspicious. How's the ride in the 3500? I've never driven one.

While running empty, I let my rear down to 40 ish pound inflation. Fronts stay at 60 all the time. You can get the 3500 rear air system and the ride is even better yet. I stayed away from in it a 2015 model and it was new on the market. So far history has shown it to be reliable. SnoKing

This got me thinking, and I remembered my BIL had a transfer case lock up in a 1/2 ton Chevy. It ended up that the driveline shock from that also damaged the transmission. I wish I had remembered that sooner.

I agree. I am thinking this "smart shift transmission" is somehow shifting into reverse on a down grade. If so, then yes it would be violent when it breaks.

You might also check if your registration fees are going to go up with a 3500, that obviously varies from state to state but AZ will charge more for a 3500 over a 2500. On the other hand I don't think you have to deal with the low tire pressure warning with the 3500.

At least FCA is cooperating...
