Wayne,
exactly righr. I'm surprised I never shared on the TDR about that adjustment clamp coming off my 03 ram 2500 or the failure of those rubber grommets.

SCF Truck,

This all makes sense now. I'm not a stick in the eye kind of guy and never shared my thought that it sounded like xfer case was shifted under full load, but was actually not fully engaged. Its bothersome that what I sent you is part of the xfer case installation procedures that mechanics didn't use or follow. Very sad their mechanics are not using manuals.

Yep, FCA will reverse what the dealer has done. They will reverse the first charge to the dealer and SCF will get that factory TC at another dealership. it will take time and honorable diligent's... So be patience , My favorite statement good things come to those how are patience... A lot of mud been slinging in this thread its time to focus on correction and not being combative emotional.

So here is probably happened....

Dealer jumped the gun on the first failure and ordered a transfer case without authorization. Usually Mopar from what I have seen makes the dealer go through Star to insure that the troubleshooting tree is followed. Dealer got the transfer case paid for somehow and moved on.

Second transfer case failure....dealer had a problem....tried to squeak by because they knew better than to submit it again.....

So where the truck has 1600 miles and you want to keep the truck then I would INSIST on a brand new unit, not a reman. Now they may have brand new cases in the parts stream instead of reman but you need to make sure....even though Mopar has the right to install a reman unit and it says so right in the warranty fine print there are situations when the mileage is low enough to warrant a brand new component.....

I'm sure they would prefer to get you a new unit instead of buy the truck back.... as TC says work with the system but hold your ground...

That dealer's service department screwed up big time...now it comes down to what is everyone going to do about it....

I have an appointment with a different nearby dealer tomorrow. The repairing dealer is out of area but close to both breakdown locations. They were also the dealer who sold me the truck.

I sat down with the service manager from the local dealer and showed him the paper trail. He shook his head and said bring it in and we'll put a new txfr case in it under warranty. He added he didnt see any restrictions on the warranty from FCA looking into the system.

Things are looking up!

Excellent!!

Congrats! Way to hang in there. I'm glad to see FCA and dealers do the right thing.

I have a good dealer. They performed the recall on my wife's 2019 Ram 1500 in the turn in lane so I didn't have to leave it. Bought 4 new vehicles from them since 1999 and if I buy another one, it'll be from them.

Cheers,

Ron

No restriction at this point. Also, just because a vehicle has a restriction does not mean that a repair will not be covered. It stops a dealer from performing a repair without FCA getting involved. We used to restrict suspect failures just for that reason.

Well our truck is back with it's 4th transfer case. Hopefully this one will work. Found a local dealer who installed a brand new case under warranty. I'll double ck the linkage tomorrow just to confirm it is set correctly. Soon we'll load up our gooseneck and take it for a test drive.
