I recently had my bump rebuilt and asked the shop to turn up the pump and timing a little bit. Unfortunately, I just got a notice that my truck smokes excessively and I may get a ticket and fined. I don't need a $$$$ fine,#@$%!

I am asking, how do I turn down the fuel? I know there is a lot of discussion about the fuel screw, but does anyone have a picture/diagram of where its at on a 93 CTD? Also, if I turn down the fuel, do I need to do anything else?

I think the shop advanced the timing, also.

When your going down the road at speed, there not much smoke, but starting out, there is a cloud and it has to go.

On the timing put your finger between the afc and the intake manifold. Wide way stock narrow way advanced. Turn the fuel screw counter clockwise a 1/2 turn at a time should help. Black smoke is $ out your tailpipe. A small puff on acceleration is all I like to see. 5 or 6 mm wrench on fuel screw and 13 mm jam nut I believe. Good luck.

Try backing out the starwheel under the AFC diaphragm. This will make it need more boost before it dumps fuel. I would do this before I turned the fuel screw back out.

Leave the timing advanced, it make less smoke that way.

Thanks everyone. It took longer to put my tools away than to actually do the fix. I backed smoke screw out two turns and that got rid of most of the black smoke. There is a fingers worth of space between the AFC and intake manifold.

Thanks again to everyone for your quick responses
