v10 blew up replaced with 5.9 cummins

i am new to forum please advise or point me in the general direction of credible information regarding what all is required to perform correctly the upgrade from v10 to 5.9 cummins... as above my 1999 ram 2500 4x4 factory equipped with automatic trans and v10 engine..let go ! under extreme use @ low miles over a year ago. since then i was ill advised by the seller of the now my 5.9as to what all is actually required to correctly install the 2001 cummins .after realizing what all parts he shorted me.i have managed to complete the swap with only the engine replaced..not yet concerned with brakes or transmission shift points.. my currant issue is the wiring.while the new engine came with its harness and ecm it did not come with the tipm harness or pcm but it actually plugs in like it my function except for manifold heater circuit witch i have acquired along with tipm from another crashed truck.obviously the original cab harness does not support intake heater or wait to start light ..i am curious if anyone truly knows how deep this rabbit hole goes? currently the truck will crank but no start condition. after realizing the fuel pump relay was not supplying power to fuel pump i used a jumper in tipm now i have fuel to the injector pump but no fuel to the common rail...i have figured that likely cause for no power to fuel pump relay circut in tipm is the ecm and pcm are not communicating?..i just want to kill anyone who even suggested this swap

Welcome to the TDR.

My and others #1 suggestion would be pick up a copy of your years Factory Service Manual.

You might need 2 unfortunately, one for the truck and one for the engine. This will give you the proper wire diagrams and color codes of the wires.

Even with the correct wiring I had to fully redo the grid heaters in my truck. It was a pretty easy circuit, you could make them manual if you wanted to just run the relays from a switch, its a super easy circuit, think its just a fusible link off the batteries to the grid relays then from there to the heaters themselves, or it comes from the distribution box, hence why you need a manual. The relays are a common item available from Geno's Garage. I used decent wire and heatshrink on the crimps and the sort.

If its an auto 47RE/48RE you should pick up the ATS instruction book that explains the differences year to year on those. Amazon has those for like $35.

IMO there are a bunch of small changes from year to year from 96 to 01 as they were tuning in the electronics and the sort. Its hard for some of us to give very specific info since they are quite a bit different at times. The basic operation of this stuff is all the same.

Alot of the stuff can be derived manually but you will need a manual for sure to get the overall concept of how it was done originally. Then you can fake out the circuits.

There are some good threads on going from 12v to 24v, look for that conversion as well, or 24v to 12v, folks describe what has to be changed for those they should help you. Expect to have to dig a bit and learn how to use the search function, it can be a pain at times and very frustrating but once you.crack the code and figure out the layout it will become your best friend. You pick a term then you need to select a forum. You could try to PM "TDRAdmin4" if you are really stuck and the search is not working, they are pretty busy but might be able to share that info with you.

Anymore the links all work to the old threads, but alot of the pics are dead due to the hosting services where the pics were stored no longer exists. That can be frustrating as well but stick with it and it will slowly come together.

Sorry I dont have a list of items for you to follow, but I think if you stick with it the project should be fun in the end. Hang in there.

I wouldn't even worry about the grid heaters at this point. The truck does not need them to start unless you are in really cold weather.

You will need the PCM on the passenger side firewall for your correct engine year. The ECM is on the driver side engine block, I'm assuming that's what you got with the engine?

What is a tipm?

You will also need the correct PDC (fuse panel) on the driver side of the engine, near the master cylinder. There is a relay for the injection pump in there, probably at least one reason why you aren't getting fuel from the injection pump.

the truck and pcm are 10/99 model year and the engine/ecm are 2001...so do i need to find a pcm from a 2001? do they change each year?

tipm total integrated power manager /fuse box/PDC I do have the correct one .and i will now install it..i did not have it when i swapped the engine and had noticed differences but seemed minor but i will go ahead and change it out now ...
hopefully with some luck that will at least cure some issues..i think its a good bet that when i no longer need to jumper the relay for fuel pump the injector pump will also work...so first i will change out this PDC/fuse&relay harness then check into the pcm if that does not fix it...thankyou everyone for your assistance..this has been a pain in my ass and wallet far too long..but in the end i will be a nice truck with very low miles and no rust

Somehow I got crossed up and misunderstood you yesterday. I THINK you are ok here, as long as the transmission is a 99 as well. They made some changes in 2000 with pcm and valve body.
Please update once you swap out the PDC. Interested to see your outcome.
