I just picked up an '07 Mega 4x4 SRW w/early G56 and looking for anyone interested in swapping their '08+ 3. 42 axles for my 3. 73 axles. PM me if interested, only has 10K miles on it.

I'm selling my camper, sold my '05 G56 Dually, and pickup of this '07 SRW. I wanted to find one with the AE G56 but stumbled into this '07 with 10K on it. I figure a 3. 42 gear set would do nicely for running around and occasionally pulling my car trailer.

WOT says he has the early G-56 with the lower geared overdrive and 3. 73 gears. That combo spins the engine at interstate highway speeds more than some are comfortable with if they're not towing.

Dont know what your plans are for the truck but if larger tires are in its future I can tell ya 37's , 3:73 and an early G56 is a great combo!

Yep, it essentially has the same final drive as a NV-5600 or AE G-56 with 4. 10's. Its GREAT for towing, but if your empty most the time its a lot of rpm's at 80. My dad has that setup in his 06 and its a beast towing in OD. His mileage is nearly the same as mine, so I don't think the HPCR's are effected by rpms for mileage as bad as VP's and 12V's, but its still nice to turn as few rpms as required.

goodguys- What he's wanting to do is swap out the entire axle assembly, with differentials intact. That avoids the process of having to set preload & backlash on the ring & pinions, which I presume is the "special skills" he's referring to- I have heard it can be tricky.

To OP: My 0. 02, related story- With my truck, I found that the gearing was a bit stiff for towing any appreciable weight on highway. (Staying in 3rd isn't an option, as revs are wayyy too high at highway speed). I ended up installing a GV overdrive unit. I've made other posts about that in the past. Good luck in your pursuits.
