I am doing research for transmission parts for Mom's 92 D350 auto. I figure it will need rebuilt (again) about Christmas time. I told her I would do the work (parts R&R- is there anything else to it), and see about splitting the parts cost. I want to know about EVERYONE who makes transmission parts for 1stGens, from Hughes and TCI, to Suncoast, and everyone in between.

So far, I know of:

TCI

Hughes

Suncoast

Goerend Brothers

DTT

Any others would be appreciated.

I am convinced now that a guy should spend at least $500 on a converter. More if you can afford one, the better than OEM but low end TC is just not that much better IMO. I would search/price shop only until you get the trans. tore down and see what is what. Maybe get a cheap core to build if downtime is an issue. Search and find the deals, name brand gaskets, seals etc. , Ebay. OEM clutch packs/steels (raybestos) or Red Eagle/Kolene. Same with the bands. Ebay the OEM 4. 2 apply lever and get a heavy duty strut for the apply lever, Sonnex or Fairbanks. I think a cast four ring accumulator piston is fine, better than the OEM and cheaper than a billet. I've been advised recently to spend a little extra and use Teflon Sealing rings also. A better than OEM (Billet) Servo is not cheap and a questionable expense for the application I think. Same with shafts etc.

Ebay this book I rant about, it is worth the $15 and then some. HP Books, TorqueFlite 727 Transmission Handbook. That and the FSM and your set.

I am not sure about individual parts, but ATS supports the first gen with converters, whole tannys and pans.

DP, I have the auto I took out of that '86, 2wd 3/4 ton. If you think any parts will help you, let me know, I'll bring it to SOP.

i also have a good trans i took apart to put another together if you need parst or a case, also have a good stock tc that worked great. if you want it. it is just taking up space here.
