You're still wrong. Cummins doesn't make water pumps for the 6.7. Concentric makes the pump for Cummins. Just like they make pumps for a lot of manufacturers. Just like TRW makes pistons for many manufacturers. Just like Bendix makes brakes for many manufacturers. And the list goes on. No major manufacturer makes all the parts in any engine or vehicle. That doesn't make those parts aftermarket. They're still oem.

Then that would make me right but I'm not according to what Geno's told me. I have no clue. Cummins rep. told me they make their own pumps? We know that's incorrect. Geno's told me the pump they sell as Cummins comes directly from Cummins. It doesn't have a name on it according to Parks, Concentric puts their name on their pumps. $59 for an original Cummins OEM water pump (regardless of who actually made it) seems rather low since they are $160 most places. I still have no clue. What I do know is the recalled pumps are made by Concentric. I'm not concerned either way because I'm going to let the dealer put whatever they come up with on it.

Just a FYI. I have a 2014 with the bad water pump. I blew out the infamous plastic Y pipe on the upper radiator return line a couple weeks ago. Saturated the Serpentine belt. So since I needed to do the Y pipe, and serpentine belt, I decided to do the water pump as well. At the time Genos didn’t have any post recall pumps. They had it listed on the website but they were backordered. So I got a Pre recall Gates from them just to have a new pump on there till the dealers get the right pumps. I had zero issues with the pump that was on there but I use my truck as a work truck, including commercial snow plowing. So I didn’t want to get stranded with a blown pump. when I removed the old pump, the bearing was obviously bad. It had a ton of play at the Pully. So I dodged a bullet there. It was ready to go at any time. Because the pump had excessive play it, my idler pulley bearing also felt bad. So I need to replace that now as well.

Yes, you sure did. How many miles on your truck? I'm thinking I should release the belt and check mind. I hear a squeaking noise sometimes when it shuts down.

I’m right at 56,000 miles. I would give it a check. It’s easy to do and could prevent a failure.

He actually was a contracted truck driver and delivered new vehicles for FCA. His real name was Carl. He had a HUUUUUGE amount of contacts within FCA, and had access to a wealth of information. He was occasionally abrasive, but I always got along well with him. He has not posted on CF since 06/16/2016 due to some guy running his yap about him. His actual username was Ram3500Dually.

No I didn't, So far, I haven't found one. I meant to investigate that some more but didn't. I've tried to get my camera down there to look. If I can, I'll get back and let you know. I suspect a weep hole but not sure. Definitely no vent at the top like the new recalled pumps. My guess is the pump bearing are running hotter than the grease in the sealed bearing is good for and the heat can't escape fast enough to keep them at a seasonal temp. I've never seen a water pump with two holes (vent) so this must be something that Cummins/Ram discovered very late in the game as to why their pump won't last. But I'm guessing. And if grease leaks out of the bearing and plugs the weep hole, that's going to be even worst. Thanks.

I would recommend watching them at night, they work better than Ambien.

Well, I have one of the affected pumps (no vent hole), and my local dealer says I`ll receive a notice when the pump is in stock.. Might never see that day.

Pump started making a grinding noise on startup (checked with my stethescope). Ordered a new pump, tensioner, belt, and Zerex g-05 for replacement from napa.. For history, my prior 2010 6.7 ate water pumps every 60k (and 125k), so I`m not waiting for water on the ground this time around.. Ram will be getting my bill for replacement. (i`m at 53k now)

Agree, I'm suspicious of RAM's recall. I'm beginning to think they realized after all these years that the bearing is just not getting enough cooling and the grease is either failing or leaking out of the sealed bearing. Their fix is to drill a vent hole in the newly designed water pumps to allow for heat to escape. I don't really know, I'm guessing but something is fishy here. It's should be a simple matter of replacing with good pump but i'm thinking they are redesigning the pump. Maybe they'll last longer now.

I sold my 19 year old 2nd gen this spring with the original water pump. Granted, it only had 150,000 miles but 19 years is a long time for a sealed bearing to last under any conditions. I owned a 2000 prior to the 98 and it went nearly 300k on the original water pump. Neither had a vent hole.
