Way O/T.. Anyone taking Byetta for T2 Diabetes?

I am a Type 2 Diabetic/ Insulin resistant for about 3 years now. During my last check up, my doctor asked me to consider taking "Byetta". I am looking for other members who have been taking it and what they think. I hate the idea of sticking myself with something, but I guess it's better than insulin.

My father takes it. It has a side effect of reducing appetite, and as a result, he has lost weight.

Byetta

Wayne, I have been takeing Byetta for about a month and a half now. It is tough to get over sticking yourself, I still have trouble every time. Make sure you get the ultra fine needles 31G. I also use two hands on the pen to keep in steady and not wiggle during the injection. Be sure not to take Byetta after a meal due to increased risk of hypoglycemia. Also if you take any other meds. try to take them at least 1 hr. before your injection.



I started with the 5mcg. pen, then after 2 weeks my Dr. told me to take 10mcg. (or 2-5mcg. shots). It made me feel like I was drunk. The worst part is I was at work when it happened. It only lasted about an hour and a half, but it was a tough go of it because I was even staggering.



The good, I am over weight, now loosing weight. Lost 16 lbs. in the first 3 weeks, and still going. I put another notch in my belt every 2 weeks.



Watch your diet and exercise and I am sure you will do just fine.

Thanks, Guy. That's going to be the biggie- sticking myself. I have a hard enough time with testing. The loosing weight thing has me blown away- too good to be true. Do/ did you get the nausea side effect? Did you figure out why the Dr said to move to the 10? Did you go back to the 5?

My Dr already gave me a starter kit and some time to think about it, so I'm fishing around for info. I just confirmed that my script plan covers it. I'm running out of excuses.

Wayne, the only side effects that I seem to have is it feels like when I sit down and relax, I can doze off real quick. I don't think this is just the Byetta, I take a lot of pain meds. also. The Byetta may be working with the other meds. to make me sleepy. I mean I can doze of any time, any where. Its almost scarry.



I don't know why the Dr. told me to take the 10 shot, and yes I am back on the 5 shot.



Go for it Wayne, Its not that bad to stick yourself, its all in your head (mine too). I stick myself in the stomach, can hardly feel it. Also I use two hands to keep the pen steady. The more you move the needle the more you will feel it. GOOD LUCK... ... . let me know how it goes, the first shot is the hardest
