"How to Do an Easy DIY Transmission Fluid Hack"

Copy and paste the above to U Tube if anyone is actually interested in the basics. I have it a bit more perfected but it will show how well it works and simply won't hurt a darn thing.

This is starting to resemble the oil change wheel well or through the top threads. Enjoyable reading.

I would suggest a G56 would solve all your problems but might have to duck a sucker punch.

Pan schman!

And there it is folks, Name calling when facts can't be applied.
I did not call you an arrogant buffoon.....I said you reminded me of an arrogant buffoon.
I have it a bit more perfected
Well.....of course you do, as everyone else just half-azzzzzs it anyway.
Way overdue to unsubscribe from this thread...

At one time... @Kirwin had a FSM for his 2013.

Gang mentality!

Don't like what I say simply block me!

I have provided good information for those who want to get rid of all the old fluid. Don't like it don't do it simple as that.

Cummins14 remember when I was your best buddy answering a slew of questions in PM's about AMZ/OIL and even offering to sell it to you at my Son's cost??? I kept this to my self for a long time but it's time to let people know what you are really like.

Please don't respond to any of my messages and I won't respond to yours.

GS you and I have a civil banter going and that's fine.

The 19 owners manual says don’t tow for first 500 miles, then not over 50mph for the first 6000 miles. I will get run off the road towing my camper on I95 at 50mph!
Wow.......I could never imagine such a step backwards as I highlighted above.

Are you sure on the 6,000 mile figure?

Just browsed the '19 Owners manual and that is not in there, at least not that I found. It does say this thou...

CAUTION!

• Do not tow a trailer at all during the first 500 miles (805 km) the new vehicle is driven. The engine, axle or other parts could be damaged.

• Then, during the first 500 miles (805 km) that a trailer is towed, do not drive over 50 mph (80 km/h) and do not make starts at full throttle. This helps the engine and other parts of the vehicle wear in at the heavier loads.

It has basically said the same thing for many many years. My 05 was the same.

It's mainly for differential break-in on the diesels, and engine/diff on the gassers.

Still waiting on a black and white specifically saying just the pan.

It says change fluid. NOT part of it.

Here it is, from a 2000 FSM in the 46/47re section. Note this is an example where they are describing what transmission service is. They do not state "partial" or "all" the fluid, merely that this IS the recomended service.....and this service amounts to a partial fluid change.....the same for the very large majority of auto transmissions out there.

Note that this section is "Fluid and Filter Replacement" Also note the last sentence of the first paragraph....that this service usually amounts to 4qts of fluid being replaced (however my 2000 always ended up being around 7 qts.)
The process is:
-drop the pan/fluid
-remove and replace filter
-check/adjust bands
-reinstall pan
-add fluid
That's it. It's been this way for decades. If there is a transmission out there that is required to have ALL of its fluid replaced as part of normal service, it is the exception, not the rule. If you have reason to believe that it is any different for the 68rfe or the Aisin, the burden of proof is on you.

The newest FSM I have access to is an 08, but the procedure for the AS68RC and 68RFE are basically the same, only minor differences that are transmission based.

I'm new to auto trans servicing, so I'll be gettting a FSM for my '18 by the time I'm due for a change. I am expecting it to read about the same.

I'll likely do a drain and fill at 15K, when I do an initial diff fluid change too, as I've been fond of early fluid changes on all new components.

You will be exceptionally surprised how red your ATF will be at a 15k drain and fill; mine has been in really good shape at the 30k mile change intervals, and I tow heavy a lot.

The only thing I’ll interject (not implying you are cheap) is to stick with OEM filters and gasket. I read about the gaskets being reusable, but I bought a new gasket to have on hand in case there was an issue with the OEM one at first disassembly. I think I reused one on my 2014 twice or three times, and it was always bone dry. A light coat of LocTite Spray Adhesive does wonders keeping the gasket on the pan during installation.

Lastly......you can get Mobil 3309 on eBay between $72 and $79 per case of 12 shipped to your door.

I’m a big fan of good filters, and if there isn’t a good reason to go away from OEM I won’t.

Good to hear your fluid is always red. I do a bit of towing in 1-2 unlocked to it gets a little warmer than most, so I’m curious what it will look like. The first change likely isn’t necessary, but hey it can’t hurt anything but my wallet.

I’ll likely use Amsoil fluid, as I use it in everything else.

During trans maint on my '04.5, technician said new fluids are a darker red in color & condition cannot be judged by color as in the past.

I suppose that could be said of engine oil, too. So many owner’s freak out just because their oil turns dark....sooner than later.

With that being said.....here’s a pic of my first partial / half-azzzzed / etc. drain & fill on my 2014 RAM 3500 w/AS69RC at 33,445 miles back in August 2014.

On my 2009 Ram 4500, I didn't have fluid/filter service performed on my Aisin until 62K miles. I hadn't realized I missed the 30K mile service. I asked my dealer to do the full service: fluid flush, filter change, check for wear, since 98% miles were towing heavy AND running Smarty on level 5. They said transmission was in great condition, no discernable wear, and fluid looked good.

I'm not advocating extended drain on transmission, but am amazed modern fluids AND engineering on the transmission was apparent.

Cheers, Ron
