A week ago, I noticed a knocking sound after about an hour of fairly hard city driving. It sounds like something is loose under the truck. For a couple of days, it seemed to get louder and more frequent, but now seems to be staying the same. I can hear it in the cab, and I can feel it in my feet. It appears to coincide with bumps on the road. It diminishes with light brake pedal pressure and goes away nearly entirely with firm pedal pressure. I have shaken everything under the hood and under the truck. The front-end components, brake components, shocks, exhaust system, sway bar and everything else I could think of/get my hands on is tight. Any ideas?

Sounds like a bad driveline U-joint. Climb underneath with the trans in N and twist the driveshaft back and forth, it should be somewhat tight. Usually when one is bad you will hear it.

Loose lower front shock bolt. Get out the breaker bar and have at it! Happened to me 3 times already and each time I had to "relearn" the problem. Each time I could only get 1/4 turn or less on the bolt but it fixed the problem.

FJfonda was right on it. Driveline was tight. Got out the 18" breaker and 20" extension. I had to get mean with it to get a half turn on the driver side and a quarter turn on the passenger side, but the noise is gone. The knowledge and experience of members continues to amaze me. Thanks.
