Im sorry. No way would a 1500 anything keep up with that Ford. It's awful quick.

Not a current 1500, anyway. The short-lived Ram 1500 SRT-10 (Viper V-10, 2004-2006) could rip 0-60 in under 6... that was 500 hp and 525 lb-ft working through a 48RE. If Ram ever made a 1500 Hellcat with the 8HP90, sure - but that F-250 Powerstroke is bigger, heavier, and has the aerodynamics of a sanded brick - doing 6.9 seconds.

I think that Viper V10 is good but a Hellcat engine in anything would be nice. I wonder how SWMbO's Jeep Grand Cherokee would do with the 6.4L Hemi Hellcat.

When I was picking up my Ram, there was a SRT10 Ram there just delivered with the fancy shifter n all. I was looking at it and the salesman said I could have that for the same $$. It was tough but I needed the cummins and the extra doors. I don't regret it at all.

I love having more power.....my 2005 was slowed down on the hills. The 2011 was slowed down less by big hills. My 2016 is a beast....love love love the 900# of torque. I use every freaking pound of it too. So can't wait to see what the 2021 version can do....LOL.

Yep, hauling a huge Truck camper plus Enclosed Trailer or hauling our toyhauler.....I love the effortless power. If I didn't need it I'd just get the ecodiesel 1500.

One thing I can say for certain. I drive U.S. 395 frequently. I drove it a lot in a 1995 Ford F250 XLT with a 7.6L 460 cid motor. Pulling Conway Summit 8143 ft in elevation. And Deadman Summit 8047 ft. in elevation. I would set the cruise control at 60 mph. About half way up the grade the cruise control would go out and we would lose speed, almost drop down to 40 mph. We went to Reno NV. in our 2016 Ram 2500 loaded exactly like we loaded the Ford XLT. I drove the same road, I set the cruise control at 60 mph. The truck pulled Conway Summit and Deadman Summit on U.S. 395 ith the cruise control set at 60 mph. and never hiccuped. Ran like a Raped Ape (as one of my favorite Uncles used to say) Maybe that should be a "Raped Ram" ! The only reason I set the cruise control at 60 mph was we left San Diego with only 25 miles on the truck. after we had 500 miles on the truck and motor I drove full speed limit.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Ram has up its sleeve for 2018....

If it's a good as what they are saying that they did to the Jeep line it will be rocking, Some of the spied Jeep photo's are great. Also the Jeep concept Pick Up with a diesel.

HEY GUYS! My favorite Ram Sales Guy just texted me sayin' that he had just received pricing for the NEW 2018 RAM'S and would be pricing mine tomorrow !!

I watched a U tube by the Diesel guys or brothers. They took a 2017 Ram ,Ford and Chevy . Put them all on the same Dyno and surprise surprise ! The 900 lb Torque 390 hp put more HP and TORQUE to the ground then the Ford or Chevy. (Which really surprised both of them)These were the new higher hoarse power versions of all three. So quite worrying about it .Where the rubber hits the rod is what counts not some claim by a truck builder! They were all duallies.

There is also a video on YouTube where they (TFL) put the 17 Ram, 17 Ford, and 17 Chevy on a dyno, and the Ram, the lowest rated truck, put out the most hp and torque. The TFL guys were very surprised. In another video TFL did, the new Ford was the slowest up their Ike Guantlet test route.

I drove one of the new aluminum body fords. I honestly think my stock (engine wise) 2014 will walk away from the ford up to about 40 mph. The ford might get me after that, but who cares? Ford can't build a reliable diesel to save their lives, and the aluminum body is ****. I'm sure I could dent the hood with one finger.

Honestly I could care less. I drive a Dodge/Ram because of the Cummins engine. I like the fact that my I-6 does what it does compared to the V-8's in the Ford and GM's.

It's all about what ones definition of "power" and "better". Torque being equal, HP will always be higher in a V configuration than an inline engine. HP is a calculation based on RPM and the inline Cummins engine will never spin as fast as one of the other V8 diesels. Seat of the pants will always be less. However, the inline engine is going to have a more ideal torque band for pulling a load at various speeds. In addition, for a given "power" it's going to use less fuel. What this translates into is on a 10 minute pull the Powerstroke is going to get to the top of the hill 15 seconds faster, but use 20% more fuel doing it. The higher RPM will also mean in the long run the Powerstroke will wear out faster. So it all has to do with ones priority and their definition of "better". You can easily build a gas motor to beat both of them up the hill... but you'll never pass a gas station and the motor will have a fraction of the longevity.

Mingoglia - You nailed it, that's it in a nutshell.

The other thing to consider is the transmission. The Ford unit is pretty good as far as shift logic and keeping the tach where it needs to be.
