GGates..

Check at your dealer to see if they have the filter warning notice which Dodge sent to all stores. It specifies by brand name which filters are acceptable. If the Wix is not listed as OK, then you should not use it. The Fleetguard is the best filter you can put on, so I would suggest staying with it.

I got my oil changed at the dealer last week and I had a Wix filter on from a previous change. I asked the mechanic if they were good and he said that they were O. K. to use, but he prefered the Fleetgaurd. I also asked him about the Fram problem and he said that he had replaced 5 engines already this year because of the Fram oil filter. But they also told me that just because you use a Fram this does not void your warranty, as I have heard said on here before. Dodge supposedly has a lawsuit against Fram. :-{}

Fram has paid for several Cummins ISB's. The CHEAP filter element was sucked through the filter and ended up clogging piston cooling nozzle(s).

The Cummins oil pressure is high, and fluctuates with RPM.

Stick with Mopar or Fleetguard Oil filters for your Cummins.

The Wix FUEL filter is made by Raycor, the same manufacturer of the Fleetguard Fuel filter.

The Wix air filter also seems to be of high quality.

I forget where I got this list from, but here is the only Cummins/Dodge approved filters. The reason stated not to use

other filters such as Fram was because they used neoprene in their construction. Dodge stated that they may not honor warranty if they determined that filter failure was the issue. The neoprene used in the construction of the filters apparently was/is breaking down and coming apart and plugging the piston cooling nozzles leading to fried pistons.

How much for a rebuild?

No Brainer!!:--)

Well put Gene.

From what I recall about the Brand F incidents, orange silicone material that was part of the construction of the filter (either the anti-drainback or the bypass pressure valve?) anywho, it had come apart on more than one ISB'r with costly results.

If anyone even mentions the F word around me I just cringe.

Wasnt there an article in TDR a few months back on oil filters?

The Wix was a good filter in the article, wasnt it?

Why are they such crap now?

Eric

I have used wix oil, air, and fuel filters for the last 5 years on my CTD's. From looking at their air filter media, they seem to be very good filters. In their oil filters they have a strong pipe-like piece in the middle that would be very hard to crush and let the media through, and they have a bypass that lets the oil through anyway if the media got clogged up.

Just a little tid bid Wix Filters is a division of the Dana Company. They also make the filters for NAPA. A NAPA 2790 is a WIX 42790, and a NAPA 1607 is a WIX 51607

Thanks for the info everyone. I did order BHAF from Wix. It will be here tomorrow. I will stay away from their other filters and continue to use Fleetguard for oil and fuel filters. :p

wix

I just put the wix bhaf on 3 days ago. i also put a bead of super glue gel around the od of the neck. there has been a few heads up about the hose slipping off???. Some of the remedies have been mentioned in other threads. mine was the super glue gel(let it dry over night at least. i used a hair dryer to set up the glue and it still took a long time). After all this i hope it works. Use what you think will work. I will post at next couple of fill ups. :p :p :--)

Hello everyone,

By accident today I found the list of approved filters that I stated for GGATES.

It came out of a TSB at - DodgeRam.org>Main>Tech Index>TSB'S>09-004-01

I don't know if this will help or hurt anyone, but there it is, good luck to all.
