Upgraded transmission to Goerend this weekend

A friend, who just got a 92 CTD, sent me a TSB link http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2001/09-004-01.htm In this link, dated 2001, they say that Wix (and napa made by wix) is substandard, just like FRAM. I knew fram was/is a POS but didn't know about the wix. Has that changed? I never saw that before.

Regardless of what some members on this fourm post, Fram Oil Filters are as good as any, and maybe better than most. Also the price is right.

CUT A FILTER A PART... SUCH AS A FRAM... . WIX... ... AMSOIL..... AND SOON A FLEETGUARD... ... AND YOU WILL BE AMAZED... ... I PAY THE DIFFERENCE AND ORDER THE AMSOIL... ... . MY EDUCATED GUESS IS THE FLEETGUARD STRASPORE IS JUST AS GOOD AS THE AMSOIL ON 5000 MILES DRAINS WITH ROTALLA... ... . ALSO YOU CAN ORDER A LARGE FILTER CUTTER FROM SUMMITT RACING FOR ABOUT $32. 00... ..... trucksalesdave..... central Georgia

I don't think so

OK, then why is it all the filter-related engine failures I've read about here on TDR over the last 7+ years have always had a Fram oil filter?

Wix builds quality filters. Amsoil would not be associated with them if they were substandard. Maybe Wix sells Napa a cheaper variety, I don't know. I do know that the only filters going near my truck are the Amsoil/Donaldson designed filters for lube oil and the Donaldson and/or Wix for Fuel.

You won't find a Fram anywhere near anything of mine.

Maybe the reason Amsoil uses particular Wix filters is that those filters are made by someone else... like donaldson? I know I read this not long ago... they have their "better grade" filters made by others...

I use Wix on my cars, but not on my CTD... a $1000 engine is a whole lot cheaper than a CTD.

A won't touch Fram or any of their off-brands... I basically use three filters... Wix (again only on the cars), Purolator, and Fleetguard.

I really don't understand all this cheap filter stuff. These engines are very expensive so don't mess around. Get the recommended filters, Fleetguard Stratapore LF3894. Easy to get and not very expensive. I get mine from the local Peterbilt shop.

Who makes the Mopar filter on my brand new '06 CTD? Is there a supplier (like Bosch makes the injector pump) for these or is it really Mopar?

Fleetguard, but the filter isn't a stratapore...

I've even heard of a fellow named Frantz who uses a roll of toilet paper as an oil filter! ;)

Imagine that!

i've used wix on most all my vehicles for a while now and have noticed no problems. napa gold and wix are same filter. i have cut apart most major brands of filters (have the cutter around from the race car but ive opened filters off the lawnmower :) ) and have yet to see much difference between any of the premium brands.

It's too late then. The problem that occurs is a plugged piston cooler nozzle. That causes a piston to seize. Everything is fine until that happens. Not worth the risk.

Fram's are JUNK, period. Get a Fram, and other filter brands and cut them open. I bet you don't have the same opinion once you cut the filters open and examine the internals.

Fleetguard makes two grades of filters for our engines. 1 is paper (cellulose) and 1 a their Stratopore filter, which uses synthetic media.

WIX makes good, quality paper filters. They are well made, have had no issues, and I've used them for years. Show me proof of a WIX filters continually failing. Good luck.

AMSOIL deals with WIX and Donaldson. The AMSOIL branded filters, the EaO oil filters, are actually Donaldson Endurance Nanofiber oil filters. They are a superior filter to a paper filter and IMO, superior to the Fleetguard Stratopore. In all fairness, I do believe that the Stratopore is still one of the finer oil filters available, but I feel the Nanofiber Donaldson does a better job. Personal preference I guess.

Walk into NAPA and buy an oil filter. NAPA buys filters from more than one manufacturer. One day, at one NAPA, you could be getting a NAPA filter made by Fram. One another day, you could pick up a filter that is badged the same and is made by WIX. NAPA buys from multiple suppliers based on what is most cost effective and what yields the highest margin of profit. NAPA Gold filters are usually even higher quality filters, normally WIX.

AMSOIL builds relationships with companies who make proven, reliable products, like WIX, Donaldson, Bosch, and now Mothers Car Care Products.

When buying filters from AMSOIL for our Cummins engines, I alway recommend running the Donaldson Endurance Nanofiber filter or the AMSOIL EaO oil filter, since in the case of the ELF7349 and EaO80, they are exactly the same filter.

I was just in Walmart today and I see they carry the mopar name filters. They were 9. 88 for the cummins. I dont know if these are the same mopar filters you get at the dealer but they have mopar on them. I use wix and mobil 1 oil with no problems. I change every 7500 miles but I dont pull anyhting and not in dusty conditions either.

I can't reliably speak of what Wal*Fart carries, but I do know that the Mopar badged oil filters available through dealerships are made by Fleetguard. They are the non-Stratopore Fleetguard filters, the cheaper of the Fleetguard offerings. Fleetguard is a wholy-owned subsidary of Cummins. The Mopar filter, the ones made by Fleetguard at least, are a quality but cost-saving cellulose/paper oil filter element. They do not utilize the synthetic filtering media of a higher grade filter.
