Ah yes, drift mowing.

Yeah thats pretty cool 11gal capacity.

New ones IS-2200 on up have that option. I went with the ISX-800 just to get the better seat.

Pulled the cut sheet to see if they have the parts. It probably would fit could make it fit if you needed the capacity. Not sure how it will be on fuel yet.

You should be good for several hours at 6 gallons capacity. My 35hp Vangaurd uses right at 1 gallon/hr mowing at max governed speed.

I have fairly steep areas and like to cut some of it across the slopes. i also like pulling a trailer, so a lawn tractor works best for me. I've had the best success with a JD X series. Before that I used a Cub Cadet 54" with power steering, but it was not on the same level as the JD. To get the trans filter and diff lock you have to get a X570 or bigger I think. Years ago you could get a X300 series with a HD K78 with the removable filter, but no diff lock. I've gone through too many cheap mowers, they aren't worth fixing after three years here. My JD lawn tractors runs and runs, the larger HD trans has held up fine because the fluid gets changed, much higher toque capacity, the removable cartridge filter makes a big difference in longevity too. I have a L4330 Kubota for the 6' bush hog 286, thats been a great machine combo. My Kubota is a 2003 with the OEM loader, still runs like new. I would have a dedicated diesel Kubota lawn mower if I had the money to spend. Maybe a B series with a belly mower, but the JD gas mower does good.

That's great feedback on your set up.

I have a conventional 54" Cub I really love that thing, it's an '06, I've only put oil, filters, one set of spark plugs, and one battery into it since I got it in 2013. It was the better series of MTD and the Kohler owes me nothing.

I was just telling my wife this thing is super nice and fancy but still does not solve the amount of trimming I still need to do.

Right now we have had so much rain the ground is pretty saturated I was able to get everything cut, there are a few areas I could not get too, just not enough hours behind the wheel, it's a little sketchy in some areas and is a pretty heavy unit once it starts sliding a little bit keeps you on your toes.

I know my Cub would have slid in the same areas, just I'm million times more equipped to deal deal with that, vs making the wrong correction at this point is pretty easy for me.

Never helps it's been over 3 weeks since I mowed, so I left it at 5" for right now and did the easiest pattern I can do just to get some time on the machine.

Well, fellows, the Ferris doesn’t fare well in a fire. My father had just finished mowing and had pulled the mower to the shop to put it away. He always lets it cool down before putting it in the shed. It was sitting just outside the shop. He decided to fill it up while it was sitting there since both tanks were about empty. He was pouring gas in the left tank when he said he suddenly saw flames. He slung the gas can which is probably all that save him from severe burns at the least. He said it was immediately engulfed in flames and he was in the middle of it. He was able to get away from the fire and push it further from the shop. He has no water at the shop and his fire extinguisher was old and had no pressure, so he had to stand there and watch it burn. He futilely tried to throw some dirt on it with a shovel. He was blessed that he didn’t get burned and that it didn’t catch the shop on fire.

I'm glad to hear everyone is OK after that.

Wow very fortunate that's all that got damaged being so close to the shop.

A good friend my father's got burned pretty bad in a mower fire, it was pretty life changing for him.

That's so scary, The Lord was watching out for your Dad. Best wishes to him recovering from that terrible experience.

Ron

glad he's okay but was he filling the tanks with fuel while it was still idling and hot?

Probably something we have all done at some point whether we admit it or not....

My log splitter comes to mind, it has such a small tank we may have to refill it a couple of times throughout the day. I don't let it cool off everytime either....

I'm really glad your dad made it out unharmed Scott. Fire is scary stuff.

No, it was not running but it was hot. It had been shutdown maybe 3-4 minutes after mowing for @ an hour and a half when he decided to fuel her up instead of waiting to do it before mowing next time.

Mower can be replaced, not your Dad! So glad he made it unscathed! Another great time to check out our fire extinguishers! I need to replace 2 and keep the old for second chance. Pressures show good but out of date. Getting 2 2.5lb to keep in the truck just in case. Never know when I might need or come upon a scene where it could save a life! Carry 1lb in DW SUV and make sure my son has one in his car. It's a piece of mind thing. Again, so glad that the only thing you Dad suffered was watching it burn helplessly!

If gauge is in the GREEN take a rubber mallet and whack the bottom while holding it upside down several times. Do this once a year. Tag it that you did it by date.

Back when I was a volunteer fireman, we were advised to turn dry chemical extinguishers upside down and shake them until everything sounded loose at least once a year. The chemicals can compact over time and render the extinguisher useless. I would bet this mower fire happened so fast that there wasn’t much chance of stopping it. Better to let it go and save yourself.

I was having some issues with my Ferris so I jumped on another forum and saw this post. Very similar story to @BigPapa something must be up with these, it does not say they actually spilled gas it was just hot.

From the post....

"All he told us is he was filling tank up from a 5gal can. He said he heard gas ignite under mower and then turned away from mower with can in hand as that also ignited and burned him and mower. He had no idea how gas ignited as the mower had been turned off he said for a minute or two."
