Going on another Vacation

Harvey,

That is going to be a really great trip. Make sure you take pictures to share with the TDR. And make sure you get your bike in the pictures. (scenery with no context are boring as heck)

I'm terrible about remembering to take photos but will carry a camera and try to remember to take some photos stopped alongside or just beyond state and provincial signs.

Sounds like a fantastic trip Mr. Barlow. I'm guessing that your Goldwing has to be well outfitted for such a journey.

Pics' would be great... Canada is one of the few countries in this world I have yet to explore.

Don't forget, you still need Nevada to complete your 48 state bike tour..... enjoy! Nick

Nick,

You're right.

I've decided on a route to Las Vegas then north to Reno then cross over to I-5 in northern KA following I-5 through OR and WA.

Gregg,

I'm just plain old Harvey.

Yes, the Goldwing has powerful linked front and rear disc brakes, cruise control, satellite radio, gps, stereo sound in my helmet, comfortable back rest and highway extended rider pegs, heated seats and grips, and a very smooth and powerful opposed six cylinder engine.

There is nothing else on two wheels as comfortable, smooth, and powerful as a Goldwing 1800. It makes long distance cruising very easy. I bought it new on January 17, 2011 with 00001 miles showing on the odometer. It has just under 62,000 miles showing today.

Harvey , Make sure you go around to the Gaspe, QC on your way to Halifax. Might check out PEI also . Have a great trip.

Joe,

What's at Gaspe, QC? I've thought about including PEI but am wondering if I'll be tired by the time I reach Halifax and may not want to add any additional miles or travel days. I've read of motorcycle travelers on websites including PEI in their travel plans.

I have not been there but have been told many times how beautiful it is. I worked for a man years ago that went up there any time that he could get away for a few days.

I have heard it referred to as either "The Gaspe" or "The Gaspe Peninsula"... .

Dave,

Yes, but rain and fog on the PCH presents a greater threat than riding the Trans-Canada highway. I don't like riding in the rain anytime but some times motorcycle riders have no choice.

Mr Barlow we have decided to extend an invitation to you on your journey. Stop by and have a 1 1/2 inch thick Porterhouse Steak cooked to your choice, baked spud, salad, homemade bread and real butter, and BBQ beans. We can throw back a few shots of Jack and blow the foam off a couple of barley pops.

Go to the local Saloon and have us a couple of the local Micro Brew barley sodas and you can even get up on stage and cut loose with the mic. dispersal shield in front so no body can see its NOT YOU doing the singing, I will be behind the curtain singing for ya, Im sure that one of the half dozen widows in town that are half blind and usually PLASTERD BEYOND HELP, will be able to put some stiffness back in your lariat without the use of the medical wonders of the blue and yellow pills that are now needed.

Come on up and see how NORMAL PEOPLE live and have fun, its what we do and we do it BEST!!! PARTY TIME!!!

Just so you can get use to lip sinking the song of choice for the widows (that aren't half bad when the lights go out they are all PRETTY) and by this time your sense of touch will be impaired so you wont be able to FEEL HOW UGLY THEY ARE.

Let us know when you will arrive so we are sure to be there.

PS its best to leave ALL POLITICAL VIEWS in the saddle bags of your scooter, folks up here don't take kindly to being called names ;)

Harvey, on the PCH in northern California, some who have driven a car north during fog find they are unable to drive south on the return trip in clear weather, they get the 'driving over over a high bridge' fear. The Sonoma county part of the PCH was my favorite riding pleasure riding sport bikes, I bought very high life insurance so as to cover the wife and children, as one had a chance end up in the ocean from a high drop as accidents do happen. Hope you enjoyed all your riding during your trip.

My travel progress has been halted by nature. I left Chilliwack, BC Wednesday in the rain and rode 400 miles in fog, drizzle, and moderate rain to Golden, BC. I left Golden early yesterday (Thursday June 20) in fog and rain again. I made it about 100 miles through the Canadian Rockies just beyond Banff NP to an RCMP road block on Trans Canada 1 and just barely squeezed past to an exit ramp into the town of Canmore, AB. I found a room in a decent hotel where I'm spending my second day. Historic rains and snow melt run off from the mountains have caused major flooding and destruction. Small towns and large portions of major cities like Calgary to my east are flooded and residents have been ordered to evacuate. A highway bridge at Cougar Creek to the east along with about 300 meters of roadway have washed out and mudslides to the west and south have blobked or destroyed the highways. Many homes and business building have been destroyed in the area. I don't know how long I'll be stuck here. I spoke with a Canadian bridge engineer who is working surveying bridges here in Canmore this morning at breakfast who was talking about a need for the Canadian Army to bring in a temporary bridge. ??????? I've heard that around 1500 OTR trucks are stranded here and out on the highway. I guess I should not have complained about the almost three year drought we've had in Texas.

Well, you wanted an adventure, right ?:)
Well, just sit back and enjoy the locals for awhile, eh ? Its not as though you are in a hurry to get back to work or something.
Have fun and "be careful out there"

Harvey, can you get back to the Banff highway and go north thru the park to Hwy 11 that goes to Red deer? The park has great scenery, but this time of year who knows if the lodges are booked up.

Harvey,

Are you still stuck in Canmore??? Things didn't look real promising up there on the news this morning.
