If you added 12 quarts TOTAL you will be slightly over full by about 1/3 quart.

That's why I initially held up the last quart, until I noticed it "low". Either I'm better at draining oil than you, or I got ripped off a few ounces from each of my bottle jugs of Rotella. :-laf

Thanks for all the info. New 16' SRW 2500 and will definitly use this thread when it comes time to change oil.

You are welcome, my Son said he wished he would have looked at this thread before changing his oil (i did tell him to check it out). He removed the hose from the steel bent pipe instead of removing the steel pipe with the intake assembly. He said no doubt it would been easier.

I changed it early to get rid of any manufacturing debris and initial wear metals. I will change when the computer tells me to the next time around. Most likely it will be close to 15K. I will have the oil analyzed by Blackstone at that time.

Now with a few trips towing and about 6K on the clock I will be changing out the rear diff fluid to AMZ/OIL 75/110 Severe gear.

I don't think this is necessary as the factory runs the cummins for hours before being shipped to ram...they remove the oil and the factory refills them. But it don't hurt either.. The filter should catch all the stuff anyway.

Been pre filling filters for 40 years with no ill effect, just be careful.

2 lady's drove about 150 miles from the Bay Area to the Sierra Nevadas. They were on the side of the road. I pulled over and asked if they needed help. They said their oil light was on. I checked the dipstick and no oil. Looked under the car and no oil pan bolt. They said before they left home they had the oil changed. The jiffy lube did not fill the car with oil and left the pan bolt out. I asked them to restart the engine. The engine sounded great! No noise or knocks. They said they always used synthetic oil.It was then and there I knew synthetic oil would be in my future. I have never filled the oil filter. The oil will come from the pump to the engine parts the to the filter.

Each and EVERY CTD shipped to RAM is ran for hours??? Do you have a source that states they drain the oil & refill the oil??? Interesting....

it was on YouTube .. Cummins had a video. The video showed how the cummins were built and tested... I believe they said they were run 24 hours...

When can I switch to synthetic oil. I had an 04' HO and was alays told not to switch until 100K. They said to break in the engine 1st. To let everything get seated. Was that BS ? I want to switch when appropriate.

Your truck came with synthetic oil OEM. Snoking

Thanks guys. Glad I didn't wait till I needed an oil change. I was gonna do one with regular oil. Now, no way. I knew getting back on TDR was a great idea. I'm not much of a mod guy. My 04 sold last month had only 90k and almost stock except for guages. I plan the same for the 16'. Although I will do lights, cabin filter, exhaust tip and really anything that pertains to appearance and up keep. Thanks again

Sheesh.....these synthetic myths are going to live on forever.

As Ming said, they came from the factory with synthetic.

I intended to switch to full synthetic on the first oil change, I guess I will not switch and continue using it.
