Yeah crying the blues for fuel, you Cali guys definitely have it worse than we do here. I was in Utah last week out in the boonies and it was 3.79 most places, saw a 3.99 but didn't need to fill at that point so passed that up, hey by passing that up and waiting for the next 3.79 I saved $9 on that tank only take about 120 more of those to pay for the fuel tank. I have seen people talk about the rationale for buying a larger tank saying they can buy fuel where it is cheap and the tank will pay for itself, I kind of doubt it in this lifetime (well my lifetime anyway) but maybe.
Colorado on Friday just upped their fuel tax by 8 cents a gallon not sure when it goes into effect though. What ten or so years ago when fuel went through the roof we hit 4.79, 4.89 and if you really were getting hosed it was 4.99 and I seem to recall the Cali folks were well over $5 a gallon during that time. Still sucks to have 150 fuel bill regardless of where you are at but got to pay to play or to drive anyway.

I have 107 gallons capacity. I didnt buy it to pay for itself but the placebo effect has been worth the money every time I fill up cheaper somewhere. Besides, sometimes I feel like driving and dont want to stop (usually waste money on crap when you stop anyway, that adds up too) and theres places I just wouldnt want to stop. I am taking donations for my next fill up though! :)

the " people " in charge of colorado now call all things " fees " instead of taxes. that way they jam garbage " tax " increases through the sausage maker without us little people getting an opportunity to VOTE on it. you should see the back of vehicle registrations here these days.... its just a list of fee after fee after fee. cheers sir! :)

You are 100% on that fee junk. IIRC they even came right out and said it years ago when they started doing that as a way to get around the voting with the taxpayer bill of rights and tabor amendment etc all that has pretty much gone to heck here now.

I like carrying additional fuel to allow flexibility to find cheaper fuel, typically save $10 to $25 each fill up usually 80 to 90 gallons on 112 gallon capacity on my 5500. Now, motorhome has 70 gallon capacity which is pretty good range with approximately 8.5 MPG. We primarily target visiting National Parks around the country and price of fuel gets noticeably higher the closer to the parks you get. I like having enough fuel to get there, get back, and have plenty reserve.

I use Gas Buddy to find cheaper fuel, but dont have a problem paying higher price for the convenience.

Cheers, Ron

Ok I just had my low fuel light come on this morning so went to fill up and remembered this thread from last week. So low fuel light comes on, drive 3 miles to fuel station and fill up. Three card swipes later and $156 it took 47.3 gallons for the titan 55 gallon tank. So if my math is correct when the low fuel light came on the tank had 7.3 gallons of fuel left in it or 14% of its capacity.

Mine is in that same ballpark when the light comes on too. Once the needle is over E I fill up. The tank is so long that there has to be some serious sloshing with only 7 gallons in it.

Would have been interesting to know what the DTE thought you had. ;)

50 miles. I’ve never noticed the low fuel light with DTE at anything other than 50 miles.

I now have a Titan 52 gallon tank ordered. My wife talked me into paying a shop to do the install. I have it scheduled at a local shop that I trust to do it right. The install is a ways off, August 18th, but I don’t need it done until my next trip in October so no big deal.

I just put a titan tank on my 2018 . I had a hard time disconnecting the fuel lines from the sending unit. I found out that if I loosen the bed bolts on the passenger side and remove bolts on the drivers side. I could raise the bed about five inches. That gave me the room I needed to see and get to the sending unit. I also removed the inside fender strut which gave me more room to work. One other thing I would do is form the new tank straps to fit the new tank. That will give the new straps a memory to start over the studs. I did use one inch nayon straps to lower old tank and to hold new tank in place. one thing to remember is to make sure the new tank is not going to rub on any steel member of the truck frame. other things I did was remove inner fender, rear tire and spare tire. I am 76 years old and it did take a little longer then 4 hours.Just to let you know I had to take more breaks than in a shop. Also I used two ramps on the left side and raised just the left side. I hope this information will help someone. Thanks S Fiedler

comrade - you doing that at 76 is awesome ! thanks for the info. the tank is on my wish list. having lots of issues in construction due to lumber pricing, so ill have to wait on my purchase. cheers sir! :)

Looking at the titan tank web site, I noticed that this tank will not fit a 2WD CCSWB.
Just curious as to why it only fits 4WD trucks?
Could it be for safety reasons as the 2WD sits a bit lower, thus exposing the tank to potential damage?
