I am only 27, but I remember 0. 65 a gallon in the mid-80's when local gas stations were having a price war.

Then again, I remember when a postage stamp was only $0. 15

I remember when I could get a pack of Marlboro's for $. 24 (In the PX when I was in the USMC, they were trying to kill me one way or the other :) )and I remember when I was 16, you could buy gas for $. 19. 9 a gallon. I'm almost 54 now. Don't get me wrong those were not the "good old days".

Just filled up in Lawrence, KS this afternoon (2-13-03) for 1. 56, cheapest in town. Hope it stays that way. Still adding about 1/2 gal. of used, filtered peanut oil per tank full, seems to do fine.

This is the same thing that happened after 9/11. Price gouging, but on a smaller scale. Contact your representatives and have them stop this unnecessary price increase of fuel. Can we rely on foreign oil much longer before we realize how much natural resources we have in this country?

Paul

$1. 79/

It is still $1. 95 at the Mobil station I mentioned in the first post. I have been going to Massachusets for fuel since they charge $. 08 less per gallon in taxes. But thats still around $1. 86 or so.

I found a Texaco that has it for 1. 559 in Lakewood Colorado (Wadsworth and Jewell). Every other station that I have seen all over Denver is 1. 659 or more. Been this way for a week now. Looks like a pause in the gouging. Still more than premium gas.

There was a price war going on here about 1. 5 to 2 years back. Price was . 59 a gallon for the Sunoco regular.

I snapped a pic one day on my way to work, in the afternoon it had already gone up:(

Too bad I didnt have the digital camera. :( All I had was the ol 35mm Minolta.

Eric

BTW I remember it being cheap in the 80's. Bought plenty of that gas. :D

Here in central Missouri, diesel went up again, its between 1. 61 and 1. 79 depend where you go. Gas actually dropped 8 cents in the last few days. I saw a copy of the Wall Street Journal Yesterday. The future wholesale price for February (without taxes and delivery) was $1. 03 a gallon for Diesel and gas. Taxes do vary considerably by state. The June futures price for diesel was down to . 84, but gas was still over a dollar a gallon. The cold weather has probably kept diesel supplies low while there is still a big demand for home heating oil. But it does look like some regional suppliers and/or retail outlets may be taking advantage of the situation. KL

Ya know what really kills me... . It doesn't cost them anything to make diesel!!!

It's basically a biproduct (with benefits) of gasoline for the most part!!!! :{

0. 20 to 0. 30 more than regular unleaded. Same problem as all of ya... I drive 400-500 miles a week. Used to be $40 to fill up 4 days ago... now $55.

This is crazy.

AH well - you young'uns won't wanna hear about the gas war in the mid-west when I was driving home on leave from the army in the mid '50's - gas was 12 *CENTS* a gallon... :p ;) :D

BUT, I predict the price of diesel will now rapidly fall - I just filled my 50 gallon in-bed tank and main tank @ $1. 75 per gallon yesterday...

That usually will take me for 3 months normal driving...

Hi All!

As a result of all the controversy of the latest fuel price increases, the following is a listing of some of the Truck Stop Web Sites. When you navigate through the sites you can get the current Diesel, Gas (“J” and one other chain only, forgot which one) prices along with the location, phone # and other amenities/ services available. At least you can get an idea of where or where not to get fuel when traveling out of your home area!

Remember that in OR the listed Diesel price is the PUC permit holder price. All others (car & RV) without a UPC permit have to ADD $0. 24/gal to the price.

In AZ the Car/RV Diesel price is -$0. 09/gal LESS than the “Big Truck” price. If you use the “Big Truck” side to fuel, most if not all truck stops will, if BEFORE FUELING, adjust the price if you call and tell them that you are a RV (they can verify it with the camera). Remember to call before fueling. To prevent “slowing up” the “big truck” side it is best to use a dedicated “RV” island or the Car Island if there is enough room. I don’t know if there are states other than AZ & OR that have similar programs.

“J” has a program called “Real Value” that gives you a $0. 01/gal discount for Diesel/Gas and $0. 05/gal discount for Propane along with other promotional items. Sign up is free and can be done over the I’net.

GoComchek is an organization that will show most of the fuel prices along the I’state system and major US highways. They won’t show the local Mom & Pop fuel located OFF the main highways. I use it mainly to determine the relative fuel costs in one area or another. I. E. should I fuel up in CO or wait until we get into KS.

If anybody knows of another Truck stop website why don’t you post it for all to see and use?

Just filled up for 1. 49. It is probably junk gas but for the price I said F*** It. Usually fill up at the local truck stops but they have gotten so high that I can't see paying that much. Luckily I notice no adverse effects with this fuel. :)

Me to, but my local truck stop is doing the same thing. They opened a new Bullseye station across the street from the local Truck stop that is a couple of months old and real nice and clean. No big trucks can use it but a bunch of diesel pickups are using it. They are cheaper and cleaner than the truck stop so I started using them. I figure that it is new and they have been selling diesel for a couple of months so they should be selling clean diesel or I would of heard about it. I hope. I'm just tire of using the truck stop and paying more and needing to clean up after I pump my fuel. Wish there was a nice clean modern truck stop that was close but there isn't :(

I've seen this before , but it just came around thru the e-mail circut again... I thought a little humor on the subject might help??

Just a little humor to help ease the pain of your next trip to the gas

pumps. You Think A Gallon Of Gas Is Expensive? Knowing this makes one

think, and puts things in perspective:

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1. 29 -- $10. 32 per gallon

Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1. 19 -- $9. 52 per gallon

Gatorade 20 oz $1. 59 -- $10. 17 per gallon

Ocean Spray 16 oz $1. 25 -- $10 . 00 per gallon

Brake Fluid 12 oz $3. 15 -- $33. 60 per gallon

Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8. 35 -- $178. 13 per gallon

Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3. 85 -- $123. 20 per gallon

Whiteout 7 oz $1. 39 -- $25. 42 per gallon

Scope 1. 5 oz $0. 99 -- $84. 48 per gallon

... ..... and this is the REAL KICKER... ...

Evian water, 9 oz for $1. 49 -- $21. 19 per gallon. $21. 19 FOR WATER!

... . and the buyers don't even know the source. So, the next time you're at

the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water, Scope, or whiteout, or God

forbid, PEPTO BISMOL or NYQUIL!!!!
