2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission 2000 Dodge 24 valve 5.9L need any HELP Please??

[I Hope this is the right place to ask this ? Here it goes and will take any help someone might have on the problem.

***[Have a new VP-44 installed and the up grade FASS pump installed all at the same time and had all injectors and injector lines and fuel line all pressure tested so from the tank to the pump got a 100 % good check out. The truck has plenty of power and very little smoke when stepped on but does not mater cold hot first start up or set all night up until about a month ago the truck would turn over maybe two ( 2 ) times or just once and would start up. Sometime I get a long start up like 12 or so turns and it does start up smooth and will run good all day. Then try to start it fires up then might take a longer time. BUT HAVE NOTICED TURN KEY ON... JUST HIT THE STARTER QUICK... RELEAS THEN TRY TO STAR IT FIRES EVERYTIME WITH ONLY ONE OR TWO TURN OVERS. only THING WE HAVE NOT CHECKED YET ARE THE BATTERY OUT PUT. BUT ALL SEEMS TO CHARGE GOOD AND HAVE GOOD CLEAN TERMANALS ON THE BATTERYS. ANY HELP ON WHAT I CAN CHECK OR HAS ANYONE HAD THIS PROBLEM???**********

Have you tried turning the key on waite a few seconds for the pump to stop pumping, pressurizing the fuel system and then try to start? Sounds like it needs to have that pressure to start as quick as you would like for it to start. Maybe you have a fitting that might just be a little lose and a little air might be getting in. Do you have a overflow valve, and return line? These to might be a contributing factor.

I'd disconnect your batteries and test them individually, then like he said look for any possible fuel line issues.

Possibly check the manifold heater. When you do the short start/engine turn over and then it starts on the second shot, it could be the fuel air mix in the cylinders has warmed enough to work like the manifold heater. Just an idea.

Check another thread on here: "Hard Starting" by CPence. His problem turned out to be a couple of faulty injecters. I know you said you had yours pressure tested, so probably not your problem. Just thought it qualified as "any help".

I would replace the check valve on the vp44. On my truck the valve wouldn't hold pressure and the fuel would drain back out of the pump when I stopped. Then you have to bump the starter to turn on the lift pump to refill the vp44 or suffer a long cranking time. I had much the same symptoms as you do and that fixed the problem.

You have a bleed off problem. Either the overflow valve on the pump or a small leak in the return system.



When you bump the starter the lift pump will run. This purges the air and re-primes your fuel system. That's why it will start after a starter bump and pause.
