Test Drove a '20 Jeep Unlimited Sahara 3.0TD Today - Amazing!

For you Mopar fans and racers

Well, after what seems like forever, and chasing my tail debating what to do, I have finally busted a move and ordered a 2015 2500 Tradesman, 4x4, CC, SB, 6.4 Hemi, 4.10. Now, more waiting...

At least you ordered and I hope speced' what you wanted in the truck. This is the last time I buy off the rack.

I now have 22k on the odom, and the only issue is the Stability Control System light in the tach is on and I no longer have cruise control. Abs and Traction Control still works fine. Time for the first warranty trip to the dealer.

Other than that, it has been a good truck. I miss the diesel on a number of counts, but this one is getting the job done for me.

There is a recall on the ABS system, at least on my 2014 3500 DRW 6.4. I need to get mine done. Not sure if it relates.

It might. I commented about it in another thread and got the same response. Funny, I did not receive a recall notice though.

No matter. Dealerships in my area are 2-3 weeks out for appointments, and probably going to take a couple of days (two other minor issues to address that I was going to let go).

80k more miles and I trade it in - back to Diesel if there are no issues with them. I am guessing early 2016. Hopefully these hold their value.

Maybe I should just start pooling my money and drop $30k on my 02 in a restoration/rebuild/update to the latest and greatest. Reman the engine and upgrade with a cam, upgrade the suspension (Kelderman), bigger wheels, lockers on the axles, paint job...

Whole 'nother thread there.

Yes, I spec'ed out exactly what I wanted. I have spec'ed out every truck I have ever owned. This is the most basic truck I will own since 1986. Hoping that eliminates some of the electronic gremlins I keep reading about related to the EVIC/infotainment center, etc.

I've appreciated all your honest feedback, Sticks. I know this thing is not going to tow like my Cummins did, but I'm pretty sure it will satisfy my current needs.

The biggest thing is the engine (tweaked from the race horse version) seems to have held up to the HD pickup use. For a first year version - this is a good thing.

In less than 1 month, I have received 3 recalls on my truck. Funny.

At least one of them addresses the SCS light and the now lack of cruise control.

Scheduled to go in on the 28th (appointment made back on the 8th) for what will now be her "Annual" checkup. They think I'll get her back sometime that week

Sorry to take so long to respond, been on my work computer, trying to remember my login,

I still have the 6.4 Hemi. Oddly enough, the day of the "How's it going?" post, I had a hiccup with mine, the second time only the CEL came on. Crank Position Sensor Cirucit A fault...We were in a rush to do a repair on the batch plant I was working on, and I was getting some oil. Made it to the store OK, but leaving was when it died in the parking lot on startup, and then limped back to the jobsite after I got it started again. I cleared the codes when I got back, and have not had a problem since. We had so many other things going wrong that day....There are human societies that would call those "Bad Omens" and would just pack up their toys and call it a day. We kept pushing.

68500 miles on it now. Hwy mileage is still 15 or so. City sucks at a glorious 12.

Every winter I take it in to the dealer and have them check it out top to bottom, front to back, and address and recalls and warranty issues. My only out of pocket has been a set of tires and maintenance (oil changes).

No engine oil leaks, no transmission oil leaks (not that I tow that much). Everything is tight. I am not gentle on this truck either. It's not abused, but I work in construction. Rough roads, and I can be a little aggressive on the throttle.

I've honestly been very happy with the truck, and have pondered keeping it past the 100k miles. I am still upside down on it. The value drops about as fast as my $700 a month payments. It is not holding it's value for crap. If I traded it in this winter, I would be lucky to get what I owe on it, and would be right back to where I started with a new one, and still could not afford the Diesel - and that was half the point of this exercise. Get some equity and reach for that $9k markup for the Cummins on a trade up.

I may drop by one of the dealerships and see what a 2017 custom order 3500 CTD SRW would run. There are some of the "Packages" that I don't like having to get for a single item, and on the "Build your own" sit e, there was one option on the list that required going to a 5.7 Hemi, and seat configuration change...I think it was an axle ratio option. Pretty stupid.

And yes, my 2002 is still for sale. Mileage is actually only 90k, not 100, I have to change my signature. I have not driven it but three times since I got this truck.

To me it sounds like the 6.4 gasser was a pretty good move (except for depreciation and fuel mileage) with your usage. You might as well keep running it and squeeze out more mileage. Is there any reason this truck can't go north of 200k miles? Many of the gas motors in our family have had no trouble with well over 200k miles.

Well, I've put over a thousand miles since that little "glitch" with the CPS, and nothing since then. Runs just as smooth as ever. 3 more months and she goes back to the dealer for her annual physical and I'll let them know about it.

I gotta say, I do miss the diesel. My biggest gripe is still that the cruise control will loose 5mph on gentle inclines before there is a downshift. Just not enough stank in that engine to maintain speed with it's own weight. Oh, and the horrid turning radius - 60 freakin feet to make a U turn. 5 lanes of traffic.

Reading some of the 4th gen threads, it looks like '16 was a relatively good year for the Cummins. I hope '17 is another stagnant year with no significant changes to the model. I still want one. This time with the backup camera, 5th wheel ready (gooseneck towing for now), Upfitter switches, the VSIM Module.

$48,260 + S&H and tax. Still $12k outside my budget.

Here's funny,

Your Selection Requires Changes

You have selected Add Full Size Spare Tire which requires some changes to your configuration.
The ADDITION of:

  • 5.7-Liter V8 HEMI® VVT Engine
  • GVW Rating - 11,000 Pounds
  • Delete Pickup Box
  • Instrument Panel Mounted Auxiliary Switches
  • 6-Speed Automatic 68RFE Transmission

The REMOVAL of:

  • 6.7-Liter I6 Cummins® Turbo Diesel Engine
  • Dual Alternators Rated at 440-Amps
  • Cold Weather Group
  • LED Bed Lighting
The total price of this vehicle will decrease by $9,590.

I don't care how you slice it - that's messed up.

Well the "Saga" may be officially over.

Sitting at a red light, first in line. Light turns green, I start to cross going west in the right hand lane. I make it 72' into the intersection and a driver going south in their right hand lane fails to stop at the light.

Original estimate came in at $5500 for repairs. I knew the front frame end had a slight bend to them, now they have it on the rack to find out if it's DOA, or within acceptable limits. The person I talked to at the shop said "If had been a Cummins, they would drop a frame in it - no question. Since it's a gasser...."

The driver was OK, at least at the time, she was up and around. Older lady, late 60's early 70's. Her passenger was unconscious for a couple minutes and was transported to the local hospital. I presume she is OK, No external bleeding from anyone.

My left knee found the dash, and was a little tender, but OK. My airbags did not deploy. I was able to drive the truck home. All the lights worked (it did break the mounts of both headlights) and the only "cooler " damage was the A/C condenser that after 80 miles was still hissing a little when I got it home, and the steering had a slight pull to the left and the steering wheel was off by about 15*.

I'm gonna be real P.O.'d if they total it. 71k miles on this truck, and only one time did the CEL come on and give me attitude (CPS code) that went away after a restart and I cleared the code back at 60k miles.

Never mind that I am still upside down on it (I owe $26k, trade in is...was $25, and private party retail was $26k ish). These Hemi Trucks absolutely do not hold their value at all. The value drops about as fast as I make payments on it.

Looks like it's time for a cattle mauler up front!

Glad you weren't hurt, hopefully everything works out in your favor.

Looks like those tow hooks acted like a can opener.

Glad you were able to walk away from the accident Sticks.

Hopefully this all works out for you.
