Bob

I remember being in the exact position that your in right now. 2500,3500 SRW,DRW??? man I know how it is!. My wife was making alot of noise about the Dually being to big and all that!. If you even thinking about a slide in camper don't even think SRW your GVW as well as tour GCWR will be quickly maxed out as I found out with my last SRW pickup. BUT MORE TRUCK THAN YOU NEED!. You will be making the right desision the DRW offers far more stability in any given situation. I am on my second and it is my daily driver. My wife has become much more comfortable in it as well. Get the Dually and be done with it!!!. It also allows you to really relax when your wife is throwing everything but the kitchin sink in the Trailer/Camper.

One more thing Bob I don't know if you have ever been to the scales before, but if you have you already know how optimistic the RV Manf are when it come to claimed weights.

Yes it is the 3500 Single RW that I am considering.

What about the wheels on the Larmie Package they are Aluminum, are they good looking or should I Opt for the Steel chrome clad wheels and save $100. 00????

The new aluminum wheels are forged and look GREAT! Don't even think of the chrome on steel, you don't need to, the forged wheels shine as brite as the chromed ones.

Bob,

I don't know where you're located (filling out the personal information and signature blocks really helps us help you ;) ), but you might want to give Henson Dodge in Madisonville, TX some consideration. They stock and sell a lot of Dodge Rams at excellent prices.

Get the 3500. They shouldn't even make a 2500 IMHO.

3500's are for people who are skeered and need training wheels

2500's are ready to roll baby.

3500's= sissified

2500's = REAL TRUCK! :eek:

Well, heck, by that logic, maybe he should get a 1500! Hey, why not a Dakota - that would make him a REAL man!!!

I did see a ford ranger once with a big old truck camper and pulling a big old boat. it was in Florida and he had New Mexico plates, that guy wasnt skeered and he didnt need no dogone training wheels

I just dont buy all the 3500 hype hardwick. Especially on the earlier trucks that had the same axles , same springs and you can buy a single tire that will far exceed the two dualie tires combined.

I think people just got ripped off and want to bring more people with them. I see how my truck handles at 11,100 lbs and i just know you dont need a dualie. Not for our frames.

oops, sorry about that if he has a single wheel then it is unsissified. I still hear 3500 and immediately think training wheels.

With the second gens SRW 3500 was called Camper Package and cost 195$ :D

Yeah, but they forget to up the 8800 lbs sticker on the door jam. SNOKING

Yeah i wonder how many thousands that new sticker cost them 3500 boys???

That sticker dont mean a damn thing any how. Any way this is about new 3500's so oh these arguments dont hold water here

Oh, I guess we'll just have to live with our memories of the glory days when the 2500 were the better of the two!

Dodge finally wised up and said look we need to make he 3500 actually be better than the 2500s or how can we keep fooling these guys. Just glad that wasnt the case in 2001

Thats simply asking for trouble ... ... and a criminal lawsuit if anybody were to get hurt in an accident.

Have you ever towed with a 3500, or a dually? There is no comparison. Beyond the wider stance adding to stability, lets look at those 4 tires. If you have 4000# on the rear axle, thats 2000# each for a single and 1000# each for a dual. With the same tire and air settings, the dual set up automatically gives you less tire squat to lessen the squishy feeling.

This is my second dually and I can't imagine ever towing heavy with a SRW again. I tow heavy a lot ... ... ... . tractors, fork trucks, hay, horses oh and I tow these too, lol.

I don't feel ripped off at all, try a dually sometime, you might like it!

I dont want the width Hardwick, i have pulled all sorts of stuff. i have pulled a 28K dozer a good distance which would put my CGWR over 35K. I have tires rated at 6400 lbs a peice which exceeds both stock dualie tires combined.

I beleive that on the second gens you can easily make a 2500 exceed the capability of a 3500. You know what my personal GVWR is, Its the front axle 5200 and the rear axle 7500 for 12,700 lbs and I wouldnt batt an eye loading my 8800 GVWR truck to those limits.

I jumped in this topic from the new topics search and didnt realize it was in th 3rd gen section, sorry, Yall carryon 3rd geners

when yall want a real Dana 80 go get you a 2cd gen :-laf

I'll join the "anti-Dually" flame. Suit on.

If you want to tow heavy, you need the dually for stability and load rating. Those door jam stickers mean everything to DOT weight and measures boys. Most of them are by the book and if they can get you, they do. Exceed the door jam sticker = $$$$ ticket.

I run a dually and would not think of towing with SRW the loads I tow (Loaded traier alone = 14K to 30K; yeah, that is overloaded on a Dually too. :-{} ).

If you can, borrow a friends Dually and tow your load. Borrow a friends SRW (2500 or 3500). You will see the light! The proof is in the pudding!

We farm and ranch for a living (among other things) and trucks are like an old man once told me about tractors: "You can buy a tractor that is too small, but you can't buy one that is too big". I have lived this. To clarify this statement, what is meant is that you can get one that is too small to do the job and struggle with it and overwork it, or you can get the right one for the job plus a little more. Our experience is that the jobs only get bigger. You can get too big to fit in the garage, but is it too big to tow the 5th wheel that comes nowhere near fitting in the garage in the first place???

FWIW... if the trailer tow mirrors fit thourgh a opening without folding in (but in the folded down position) the duals will fit too; again, experience.

I love my training wheels. Buy the truck for the biggest job you expect it to ever do. You won't be sorry. All of this is JMO and worthless babble to most. :-laf

2500/3500 front coil rates

I know that the 2500 does not have the rear overload springs that the 3500 has but is there a difference between the two in the rating of the front coils? And while I am on that subject does anyone know if there is a difference in the front coil rates when one orders the snow-plow package on either the 2500 or 3500. Thanks.

Check the posts on leaks coming from the cab lights on the 3500's. I was thinking about adding this option, but don't wan't to deal with leaks, and cracked lenses later. IMHO
