I've searched high and low for this to no avail. I seem to recall seeing a way [years ago] to remove to cowl covering below windshield that allowed access to the #6 cylinder for valve adjustment. Am I dreaming?

I checked valve adjustment on my '98 12v this morning. Found very little that needed attention except #6 exhaust. Even laying on top of engine [not easy for a 64 year old] I couldn't accurately get to it.

Am I missing something or do you just have to be a skinny, triple jointed, 25 year old with no bifocals to get to this cylinder?

Thanks

Yep on the DREAMING. There's rubber plugs on the bottom side of the cowl to get the head bolts out but nothing to help you adjust the valves.

Thanks for the dreaming confirmation. I'd trade my truck for a 1st generation in a millisecond. I had an '82 that I converted to a Nissan diesel and drove for 15 years. Believe it or not I think that engine was more bullet proof than the Cummins. The frame finally rotted out.

Would love to find an'82-'89 truck in pristine shape [would mean it couldn't come from the "rust belt"] and drop my engine into it.

Actually, the plugs in the cowl are for removing the push rods. Valve adjustment back there will test your patience for sure, especially for us "seniors".

Done mine last thursday all a little tight, Because the transfer pump was a little noisy with a 152k on it changed it to. What a job. I would not like to have to change that thing on side of the road. My body is rebelling on that exercise.

Rp, i've got you by 12 years
