Because of various symptoms pointing to a sightly low charge I figured to add some refrigerant. Well Hmmm where is the low side port?

I see a port in the high side gas line, a port in the high side liquid

line, but none in the suction line.

Should I use the low pressure switch connection?

That is beginning to look like the only answer, short of taking it to a shop.

Suggestions? Comments?

Improvisation

The original leak having been through a bad o-ring on the low pressure switch connection, all the refrigerant was blown when I removed the switch because the shraeder valve was bad as well.

Oh Boy. This connection is the ONLY low side access on my system. I don't know why.

My commercial A/C hose connections are different threads than this fitting. This left me with no means to charge the system with the engine running.

This is what worked:

I connected the R-134a bottle to the liquid line. Sprayed the condenser with water and blew a fan on it. Warmed the bottle of refrigerant with a hair dryer. Presto! Three bottles later the system has the required 2 lbs. it came from the factory with.

I am interested in knowing how many other trucks are out there with no connection on the suction line.

Hope this is a help to someone.

Later!
