A DRUG PROBLEM

My generation just might have been lucky?

I had a drug problem when I was young.

I was drug to church on Sunday morning.

I was drug to church for wedding and funerals.

I was drug to family reunions no matter the weather.

I was drug to the bus stop to go to school every weekday.

I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults and teachers.

I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents.

Those drugs are still in my veins; and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say, and think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin, and if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America might be a better place.

Signed,

An Old Fart

I'm NOT an Old Fart (yet) and I still have this problem.

As do my kids. They will know God, family, respect, manners, and how to treat people. And I absolutely DARE any bleeding heart liberal to say anything to me about correcting my kids.

Does that mean we wouldn't have had a known drug using and importing President of the US either?? :D

NOTE: To all of a Democrat persuasion, no I am not talking about our current President, I mean the former Commander in Heat who used his vast array of various friends and government employees to smuggle drugs into the US for him and other such "slightly" illegal activities.

Here here

Here I thought you meant our present flop (who has brought this nation to its knees in three short years), who got out of getting busted for cocaine use by the use of power and money.

There is only one way to get rid of illegal drugs in the US. Legalize em, and then treat the users. :D

Lets see

The war on drugs started back in the sixties. Forty plus years of war and we are still losing. The only way to win is to get some taxes out of em and continue to drag our youth to the woodshed.

Hey CF,

Is it possible for you to post a comment in this forum without blasting my CIC? I've been off the boards for three months and I'll give you credit for one thing, you're persistent. I bet you think Gray Davis should run for President don't ya?

Everything wrong with this country is not caused by our current administration. Look back 8 years to find the start of the problem. If you were to study political history you would understand it is a widely held belief the administration is reaping the benefits or ruins of decisions made eight years prior. That means your buddy Billy boy was riding the wave of Ronald Reagan's and George senior's administrations. George Jr. has a lot of work to do overcoming the loss of respect, position and prestige caused by Clinton's indiscretions, not to mention finding a way to jump-start an economy ripe with government pork-barrel products from the previous administration. All this and fight a war on terrorism that shouldn't have happened had Clinton showed the resolve to take action the first time US citizens were killed by al-Qaeda actions. No wonder the man's too busy to waste 30 minutes pre-reading his speeches five times just to save 30 seconds during the presentation. Function over form. Of course, this is just my counter-opinion and nothing personal against you should you be offended.

-Adam

Offended?

Adam, I would never take offense at any mans opinion or idea. I have heard your argument many times before and the more I look at it, the more I wonder how anybody can believe it. It may be a widely held belief, but it makes not a lick of sense to anyone who can think. Don't listen to so much Rush, rielly, and the rest. They are after ratings and really don't expect anyone to believe them!

:D I hope I haven't offended you. No, I don't care for Gray, I really don't like any of the candidates put forth, yet.

The good thing is that I will continue to blast away at this administration and probably the next to. Until I see something to make me think that maybe there is one brain cell functioning in the White house. :D

Man how this has gotten out of hand. This isn't about drugs but about how we grew up and how kids grow up now.

I am sorry I listed this here:(

Dee. . now ya see why so many of the "old" guys no longer post much... same ol same ol

Is this a new record for TDR... . three posts and way off topic?

I was brought up as DRAWSON and thank my parents for doing so every chance I get. I don't have children of my own, but would bring them up similar. I think family values have become a thing of the past.

I remember when I first started working you addressed your supervisor as MR. , MRS. or MS. waited for your turn to voice opinions/facts in meetings. I see people today swearing and screaming at their managers or even co-workers.

I have seen Parents smack their children in the middle of stores for mis-behaving, while other parents call security for child abuse. In the mean time the accusers little ones are running all over the store.

At 33 years old maybe I think like an 'old fart' but I think times were better with family values or simple respect for each other. Who is to blame? I don't know all the answers (just some of them ;) . I doubt it has anything to do with the current administration or past administration. I do think it has something to do with people in the public eye and the media 'glamorizing' the actions of these individuals.

Flame on if you must.

I am an "ole fart", and was raised the "drug" way too.

Especially raised to have pride in self and country

AND I am mighty PROUD that our present and real President got our country UP OFF ITS KNEES, where the last admin. had us-----the patsy for the terror network, with its failure to do anything about the attacks on our military barracks, our embassies, our ships and the '93 trade center bombing, and etc, etc,; had we continued the liberal way, the terror groups would have continued to conclude that they could attack us at will without risk of retaliation, and their attacks would have gotten more and more vicious.

Yup, thanks GWB, for getting us OFF our knees and enableing us to hold our heads up again, and reducing the reason to fear terror attacks.

I appreciat that man!

Exactly

That is exactly what our country needed to do. Put the targets for the terrorists in the middle of their territory. Now they don't have to go near as far to kill Americans. :(

You don't have to worry so much about the generic liberal interfering with your right to keep your kids on the straight and narrow, as you do certain specific institutions: The schools, family protective services, and the police.

Kids are kids, they will try to get away with as much as YOU let them. This has not changed since the dawn of time, for example you can read "David Copperfield" written about 150 years ago, and Dickens writes how the boys are kept in line by the brutal master at their school who canes the boys with no provocation. There is another teacher who is softer and does not treat the boys roughly, so the boys are emboldened to act like total idiots and run wild in his care with the result that he is fired. I will bet a bunch of you have been to today's elementary, middle, or high schools and seen this EXACT sort of calculated misbehavior from the kids because they know the teachers can't or won't do anything about it.

Kids like to have fun. Misbehaving usually means breaking the boring rules, getting to play, and impressing their friends. Being a good kid on the other hand does not always bring about the same kind of immediate gratification. They will only act good if you make 'em, and teach 'em right from wrong. Left to themselves, they WILL concentrate on having fun to the exclusion of all else.

People have known this simple fact for thousands of years, so of course it is easy to understand how our society has forgotten it in only 20 years

drawson,

I'm only 24, and had the same drug problem growing up. Sad thing is, this "drug" use is getting to be illegal, now. Had a principal a few years back, at the high school I went to, used to let the kids chew out the teachers when the teachers tried to discipline them. He said it helped their "self esteem" and made them feel better about themselves. I never had any self esteem issues- cant have problems with what you dont have:rolleyes: . With all the bleeding hearts out there, and pop psychology telling us kids must feel good about themselves all the time, makes me wonder if I want to have any. Afraid if I do, I'll end up in jail for "child abuse. " Neighbor's 4 year old popped off at me a few weeks ago, and I "drug" him outside and warmed up his backside; he minds me better than his mom or dad, now. :D

Daniel

PS- CF, please grow up and keep your political views to yourself, or at least post them in the appropriate threads. You are giving us conservative Coloradoans a bad name.

I agree with you 100%. I saw the political BS started by an unnamed person, and skipped about 6 posts. anyway, I started thinking like an "old fart" (BTW, i have made few that really stunk, but that is a different thread) when I was about 14. Parents should be able to discipline their kids in public, and not get sued, harassed by pigs social services, etc, for it. I have always been polite to people, especially my superiors at work. By the same token, when I have been in a supervisroy position, I always at least listen to my subordinates; sometimes they have come up with a way to fix the current problem. It takes just as much effort to be polite and considerate as it does to be a rude jacka$$, so why not keep things a llittle more pleasant? Maybe if enough people shared my and mjendrejcak's attitude, the world would be better off. I think we are actually the majority, albeit by a small margin, but dont get the press we deserve, becasue that kind of behavior doesnt get ratings for CNN, Fox, CBS, et al. You never hear about the guy who fixes the young lady's car on the side of the highway in central KS, or loans a pickup to his stock contractor neighbor so he can get the bulls to the rodeo, etc. Guess I'm an old fart, too, at the ripe age of 24.
