To everyone considering or committed but on "hold" for a Ute BullBar...

Hang on for the group purchase, and if you have not yet committed to getting a Ute... Just do it !!!

These bumpers are awesome... I did the install just yesterday... well, with help... not because the help is needed, i'm just a dork... LOL

This is one solid unit with a great mounting system... They accept stock fogs, have predrilled holes for adding more lights, all set up for winch use with the winch mounting plate which is extra... The fit and finish are better than factory!!!

They weigh in at 150 lbs +/- and have ample room behind them for air horns and such... not to mention a winch also... so, it's only a buck over the stock bumper in weight and I didn't loose any height... The ride actually feels better with the Ute on the truck...

So, crack open a Foster's and give Layne a ring and tell him you want a Ute !

Weight

The shipping weight is 164 lbs, including all the wrapping padding and cardboard. You will lose the weight of your factory bumper. You will lose more than that if you hit a dear with a factory bumper...

Cheers...

factory bumper

Thats for sure, last year on the weekend before opening day (mid-early October I think) I decided to take my boys on a pre season scout in X8 (N. California deer zone), needless to say we spotted a nice buck early on, after getting a late start on a friday, travelling at 55mph I hit a good sized buck in pitch black darkness. Took out the factory foldo matic bumper along with the AC condenser radiator and various other items including the fender on my utility trailer... (I guess I was lucky as others have lost intercooler and radiators in similar situations). The hissing sound emanating from the front after the strike was sickening considering I was at 7500ft elevation, late on a friday night nearest phone 30 miles west up a very steep grade. . Fortunately only the A/C radiator was punctured by the horn and we were able to continue under our own power.

As for insurance, only 1 month before the incident, I had canceled comprhensive coverage since the truck had been paid off for 3 years why carry full coverage? right? (wrong) I gotta eat it now, next time I hit something I intend to have a real bumper!

And no, after the season opener I got skunked, the only deer I slayed was the one I took with the front end of my truck!

LOL, I can hear that conversation now... .

"What'd ya use to get your deer? 30-06? 7MM Magnum? . 308?"

"Nope, a 5. 9 smooth bore"

"5. 9??? I've never heard of that one. "

"6-cyl made by Cummins... "

Status?

Okay - I've been interested, but delaying any down payment due to the "urge" to get the credit cards payed off.

Can anyone, (except DOR) convince me to get this bumper?

6 point buck at over 80 mph

Don hit a six point buck in Texas at over 80 mile per hour. He did manage to put a little ding in the bar over the passenger head light where the antler busted the head light. No other damage to the truck though. His insurance company said... no problem... we will pay for the ding in the bar.

He hit this deer full on in the grill. His head hit the passenger side head light. Not much left of the deer. One Dodge Ram 3500 saved by the Bullbar.

We had another report from Canada that someone hit a moose and cracked a turn indicator lens.

Howzat for a testimonial... :--)

group of 10 from Canada

John,

His was from a group of 10 that were shipped in from Canada. Still no word on the final production date on the rest of them.

I will post as soon as I have word.

Hohn,

I just picked up a UTE from Layne at Denver Off Road. Last I knew he had two more UTEs from the first production run. They will hold up to a 9000 lb Warn winch. The next production run will hold up to a 15000 lb Warn winch. The UTEs Layne has (had) can be modified to hold the larger winch. I think EarthRoamer did this.

status and Ute testimony!

No I'm not patiently waiting anymore I got it in the first week of April, I dunno if I was part of a group purchase or what, I just called Layne made the deposit and waited. It was worth it- this bumper is awesome! It is very strong, (I think, I'm no metallurgist... ) it looks like it's supposed to be there (unlike some of the Texas Size Monstrositys out there! --ranchhand--LOL) It doesnt rust, and he doesnt nickel and dime you with all the "extras" that really arent, for example, Reunel (my first choice) charges extra for everything, light bar, holes for fogs, brush bar, all those things shouldnt be considered extras, they are necessary if you want a complete looking solution. I was THIS CLOSE to getting the Reunel, especially since they install for free AND I live within easy driving distance of their shop, BUT (and its a big BUT!) that thing is HEAVY! The last thing the RAm needs is another 400lbs on the front axle! NOt to mention the utte wont rust! (and the Ute finish looks nicer IMO than the Reunel, unless you opt for the fabulously expensive stainless version... )

Anyway, today I hit a coyote -poor ******* ran right out in front of me in a full sprint, other than some fur in the under carriage, no discernable damage to Ute or anything else. (I know, a small coyote is not the same as a deer, but I know the stock bumper would have sustained SOME damage in a similar collision...

Last time I talked to Layne about this, he said that he was expecting a prototype in around mid June. I haven't had a chance to talk to him since. Have any of you talked to him lately to see if any progress is being made?

Ute Bullbar status

I just got back from the factory yesterday. The new prototype, including a winch mount for the 15K is complete and awaiting shipment. once it is fitted and tested here in the US, they will get the production moving. Hang in there.

so where does the group buy stand?

Seems this thread has been alive for a long time...

15K prototype on its way this week

The new 15K Ram bullbar was complete when I was at the factory a few weeks back. They have the tests done now and are scheduled to ship that Bullbar to Layne this week.

Sorry for the delays, but some unexpected changes at the factory had slowed things for a while. Now we are on the move again.

On another note, the 03 Ram is on the table. Literally in pieces. It should be getting close to completion soon.

Cheers,

Randy C
