Great question, I'll ping Layne this week to see what's up and get an updated count... .

Well, I just love charging the credit card - if the deal is still there, that would be great... . please post the results instead of having 50 TDR members calling about it.

I talked to Lane a few months ago. He indicated that once the production was complete he had a whole overseas shipping container of them coming. He said they were all the polished aluminum style.

Did not sound like there were a special number on order for a TDR group purchase.

It wasn't that there was a special number for TDR it was that there was a price break for TDR members signing up for the group purchase. It helps him move volume and a smaller profit on more items balances out and gets visibility for the product... ... .

94-02 Ram Bullbars are on the way

Oo. I just got off the phone with the factory and they said our next container left the factory for the port last night. It should be here in about 4 weeks. That's the good news. The bad news is that only 11 of these Ram Bullbars are left. Layne at DOR will get some of them... who gets the rest?

On another note, Layne will have the new 15K Ram prototype tomorrow sometime for test fitting. It has already been tested in Australia, but we needed a test here in the good ole USA. Who better to test it than DOR. Hopefully all will go well and we won't need any further modifications and we can get the manufacturing ball rolling on those too...

Oh yeah, the 03 Ram prototype was suppose to be tested last Friday, but no go. It seems that the Ram that was to be used in the test was in pieces and not available the day of the test. You see they ain't got too many of these nice rigs in OZ. We will keep you posted, but we hope to have the 03 model by Christmas time.

Here we go...

Cheers,

Ute Man

Has anyone spoken to Lane about them recently?? If someone would PM me the price I would be greatfull, I don't want to bother a busy man at his shop when I am just shopping.

OK!!! Talked to Layne this morning! There is a slight change in procedure that I didn't know about BUT the group offer is still in place.

I apologize but the "group purchase" term (as in the order doesn't get filled until so many people commit) is a misnomer and is not the way Layne is working this now. He received enough people's paid orders that he filled and shipped what he had on hand. He is now extending the offer indefinatly for us!!! The offer still stands for $1500 to TDR members (winch plate, powder coating, winch, etc. is extra), call Layne directly at 970-858-4010 or 970-270-6655 and inform him of your desire to take part in the "TDR group offer" to get the scoop. He's filling the orders as people commit (as in pay) and he gets new shipments in. (Next shipment is due in the end of this month) If you don't want to wait for another shipment, get one early!

Sooooo... If you want one of his "real bumpers", you don't have to wait for a bunch of others to fill slots up, just call and order with the price break.

Hope this helps.

I talked to Layne and the 15K bullbars were not as he expected. i am going to purchase one of the original designs. Call Layne if you want to know more.

Here is an update. I called Layne yesterday (10-27-03) to see if he still expected the bumpers to be in by the end of this month. He told me they were in transit, and he expected them at his place no later than November 15th. He also said that all but one was spoken for out of this shipment.

It's finally arrived in England!!

Today I got the call from the shipping agency that my UTE front bumper had arrived at Southampton Docks in England and I should be able to collect it from the customs inspector once it's been processed out of the container.

It'll be a real pleasure to update my sigfile at last :D

Well the new UTE bumpers are in - received mine yesterday. Thanks Lane. The thing was shipped in a box that looked to carry the Crown jewels of China. Wow! Now I'll check out John McIntyre's pictograph installation guide. Excellent post John!!! Can't wait, but I guess I'll have to... .

When I talked to Lane a couple of weeks ago, he said that he rejected the new prototype because it stuck out too much. He said he was suggesting (or supplying?) a different winch other than the Warn 12000. Was it the Milemarker like John M is using or something else? Anyone know? If nobody knows. I'll call Lane next week to find out. Hey John, how hard would it be to install a winch later? I'm thinking that while I'm there, might as well do it. After a year I finally got a chance to pull out another stuck Jeep with the Warn 9000 on my Wrangler. In fact I had to save another truck that got stuck trying to pull the Jeep out. It was a good feeling. Winches are great, especially the one I'm married too. She's pulled me out of some really tight situations over the years. Ok Ok, don't go there... Leave it alone... . :D

Nice pictures Jonh! How long did it take you to install it? It looks like the better part of a day. How about a picture of it in the daytime! :D

Easy to add a winch later

If you want to get the Bullbar on now and add the winch next year, it won't be a problem. To add the winch you just need to take the aluminum off by removing 6 bolts and lock nuts. Leave the steel mounts on the truck. Then you take the steel tube out from between the mounts by removing 4 more bolts. The winch mount goes in place of the tube with about 10 bolts. Then you mount your winch and put the aluminum bullbar back on.

Not a problem.

Firing on all cylinders soon!!

Nice pictures John! How long did it take you to install it? It looks like the better part of a day. How about a picture of it in the daytime! :D

Ditto what Randy said above. Allow a day comfortably for just the regular UTE bullbar install. When you decide to go for the winch install, allow another day too. Depending on the winch type you select, I'd recommend that you do a little prepararatory groundwork forst to forestall any surprises! Hopefully, I will complete the winch install just before Christmas, when my "hands model Neil" is firing on all cylinders once more and I'll update the photos accordingly... :D

The winch install is now set for 9 January 2004. Some daylight pictures will be posted here in the next couple of days.

More Rams due in this week

More Ram Bullbars are due in this week sometime if anybody is interested. As for those who are still waiting on the 03/04 Ram Bullbar, we hope to have a prototype by the end of the month. Don't hold your breath though... It is going to be different than the 94-02 just a bit...

John... I'm looking forward to seeing those winch mount shots. Everyone should keep in mind that John is taking lots of pictures and documenting his installation. That takes time. Normally you would plan on an hour or two for a Bullbar installation and an extra hour if you are adding a winch. If an experienced, well equip-ed shop is doing the installation, it should be even quicker. By experienced I mean, those shops who have installed a few of our Bullbars already, so they have a feel for what to expect.

Thanks for the step by step photos John. They are excellent.

Cheers,

UteMan
