I need a recommendation on a decent set of batteries for my 03. I don't need the expensive ones like Optima, I only need a recommendation for a replacement set. . . .

thanks

Rob

Rob,

I've had great performance out of the Duralast Gold batteries from Autozone. My 99 starts quick in cold temps in Colorado. 3 yr free replacement and I believe prorated for 8 yrs after Also, 1 yr free jump start if needed. I did have on with a bad cell at about the 3 yr mark. The Autozone I deal with replaced both batteries free of charge and reset my warranty. Probably more expensive batteries out there but the Duralasts have worked for me. Good luck.

I like Costco batteries because they have the best price and the best warranty. They are made by Johnson Control, who also make Interstate and Sears Diehard with the same quality. They have served me well and have good longevity.

I agree with Grizzly... . Costco has powered my stuff for a long time... cost effective, high quality batteries and a no hassle warranty if you need it... . Have never had a set that didn't outlast the OEM batteries.....

HI George... I owe you a note... soon I promise. .

Are you near a Sears? They have 3 levels to chose from. I just put in the Platinum's, and WOW so much more juice than stock.

They are spendy however.

Yes they are, but not as bad as when them come in their OEM orange paint. The sears price is 65% of the Odessy retail price, then I got a decent military discount on top of that. So far they are worth it, in the back woods for camping and hunting good batteries are a must. I have noticed quicker cranking, as well as smaller voltage drops with the grid heater cycling.

Caterpillar batteries. If there is a dealer close by,.

Do you know if Cat and Deka use/are the same manufacturer??

I have some Dekas in an OLD JD350 loader/backhoe that just keep on ticking, even with minimal use, the 3 cylinder diesel jumps right to life. Once, after not using for 2 full years, I cranked her over, and she fired right up!! Now THAT"S a battery!!Oo.

Wal-Mart batteries are also good.

Consumer Reports rates the Cosco Group 65 battery a "Best Buy" and the same battery from Wal-Mart as a "Recommended Buy". Both batteries are manufactured by Johnson Controls and show to be priced the same. The original poster isn't near a Costco and neither am I. I buy my replacement batteries from Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart stores are everywhere if warranty service is ever required.

I was speaking to Ford owner just a few weeks ago in the tire/battery dept of Costco. He eats up Costco batteries everytime during the free replacement period. The guy's a contractor here with a lot of stop and go usage. He hasn't bought a battery in ages. Maybe the eight glowplugs have something to do with it.

There's a dealer here who sells Deka blems. They've got minor case dents/blemishes. I replaced my RV battery with one. A group 27 gel goes for $69. 00. A friend in Baja swears by Dekas from this guy. They power his photovoltaic system down there. I may buy some for the Dodge when they go.

Deka's have a great name in performance and reliability. They are up there with Odessy, both of which are 1 tier above Optima.

Well, it's a Furd, what can you say!

That's a good quick review, and I noticed they Optima was the recommended battery. I did notice that Odyssey nor Sear Platinum were mentioned.
