Sandbrew,

Go look out your window and I'll wave to you. I'll be that little speck about 750 feet below and 1. 5 miles to the north!! I'm sure you can probably see my house from your vantage point. I can see that antenna and an American flag to the west of it. What color is your roof? Green? Look for the rock outcropping by top of Warhawk and my green roof.

Well that gets a little complicated (A women was involved). Enough said. Still workin' on trying to get back, miss the drive up the canyon on a hot day and feel the rocky mountain air conditioner take over.

Craig, I do have a green roof. It's on top of a log cabin with windowed A-frame front. If you can see the flag my house is slightly uphill and only 200-300 yards to the right. I'll have to pull out my spotting scope and take a look your way.

Here's a question for you I saw from you profiile you run Dunlop ATs I had some on my truck and they only lasted 14K Have you tried any tires that last longer than 20K? 285 eats rubber fast. I'm in need of some new tires ASAP and want to try something with a mileage warranty. Any suggestions?

Sandbrew

Sandbrew,

My Dunlops don't seem to be wearing very well either. I rotate every 4k too! The stock Michelins, I got 33k out of, and I slow down quite a bit down in the canyon around Tiny Town and below! I've reckoned with the fact that the weight of the Cummins and the curves up here are going to eat tires quickly. So, I don't know to try next either.

I don't think I saw your house but I'll look again.

Craig

Craig, I haven't been able to find your house. We'll have to pick a time and flash the flood lights or send up a smoke signal. I just replaced my free Big O no name brands with BFG AT Ko in size 285s. I went to Discount tire and WILL have them rotated for free every 4000 miles. They look great and have a 40000 mile prorated warranty. I hope for the $ they last. Sandbrew

Sandbrew,

Did you say FREE Big Os? I just saw a set of 285 Michelin LTX M/S's. Those are what I'll go with. A little more expensive, I'm sure but I really liked the stock ones. Living on top of Conifer Mtn adds a few more curves to your drive than mine!! BTW, I vote for blinking the floods rather than smoke signals! Its a little dry for a fire!

Craig

P. S. Who is going to the Cummins Truck Fest at Bandimere? I am. There is good info on the local events page.

Craig

The free Big Os came off a buddies 2000 CTD 2500 before he traded it in. They had 3000 miles on them and only made it 14000 more on my truck.

I was joking about the smoke signals. It's way to dry for comfort level. Still not as bad as last year. Check out this story.

On Tuesday night I caught a person tossing a LIT cigarette out the window of their car on their way UP Conifer Mt. I saw the embers bounce on the pavement. I hit the go pedal and lit up the new BFGs. I passed them flashing my high beams and honking the horn in one of the switch backs on Kennedy Gulch. I cut in front of them and jammed on the brakes. They pulled over and I SCREAMED at them to go back and pick up the cigarette. They claimed it was out and not to be from around here. They turned around and headed back to find the butt.

As I was turning around in a driveway to make sure they found it a Jeff Co Sheriff passed by. I again honked my horn and flashed my lights. The Sheriff pulled over and I told my story. She hit her lights and speed down to the car stopped looking for the cigarette butt. The two women in the car tried to tell the sheriif how mean and scary I was to them, but she keep saying I don't care what he did you people are IDIOTS.

I'm not sure if I'll make the gathering I'll try.

John,

I know you were kidding. I can't believe how thoughtless people are-even if they don't live up here. "HELP SMOKEY PREVENT FORREST FIRES!" I remember that from when I was a kid. Last summer when it was so dry, I saw a kid driving down Shadow Mtn Dr. toss his cig out the window, I figured he was heading to Conifer high so I called the sheriff, they went and pulled him out of class and had a word with him. Its unbelievable, even locals do it! Now you got me started.

On another note, what mileage are you getting? I'm lucky to get 14. 5 or so up and down the hill. I've got an auto and 3:54s.

That is unbelievable! I can’t believe a local could be so dumb Good for you for calling the cops. I’m uphill from you and it wouldn’t take long for a fire to high tail it uphill

Man you’re mileage SUCKS. I have been averaging 20+ mpg lately (summer fuel) on my daily commute to downtown Denver and back every day. My mileage drops to 17-19 mpg in the winter due to frequent 4x4-use and winter fuel. Today I speed out to Cabelas in Sidney Nebraska and back with my father in-law. I had the cruise set at 80+ and averaged 17. 94 mpg for the tank. My mileage has improved over 20,000 miles. I’m currently at 61,000+. My only mod is a BHAF. I change the fuel filter every 10,000 and oil every 4-5000. I have some synthetic differential fluid but haven’t had it changed out yet. I also have a fuel pressure gauge and exhaust temp kit but haven’t had time for the install. Who did your gauges?

By the way,

My brother has a 2002 CTD 2500 6spd 3:54 and he has only been getting 17 mpg or so. He only has 15,000 on the engine. I’ll be curious to see if his mileage goes up after he hit 20,000.

Saw and talked to a nice guy today parked at I-70 and Youngfield this morning. He said he was from Arkanas. He was driving a green 2002 QC dually w/ gauges and an oversized exhaust. It was super nice looking rig pulling a BIG 5th wheel with a 12 ft trailer behind it.

I pulled up to take a closer look at his pet BOBCAT on a leash!!!!! We chatted about the cat and then he asked me about ATS in Denver he was having transmission temp problems on the "big hills" west of Denver. Not sure he was a member forgot to ask while talking about his kitty.

Are You Happy Craig with the gauge install

A guy at Elway Dodge on Wadsworth did my gauges. Same guy is going to check out my lack of mpgs. I'll pm you.

I will either do it myself or if the price is reasonable and can get a recommendation on a job well done, will have someone like them do it. Mine is at that dealership right now getting the fan for the heater/airconditioner problem repaired, and that is where I get most of the work done and bought the truck. Is there a mechanic I should ask for, or is there only one?

Any information on your level of satisfaction and work done would be most appreciated.

Gsevison,

I'm happy with the job he did on my truck. He's the only tech I'll have work on it. I better check with him though first before I get him into this. I'll get back to you tomorrow.

I understand completely.

Thanks for checkin'

Craig,

Thanks, got the pm, but when I tried to reply crashed.

I appreciate the info and will keep it till we are ready to "gauge up", which will be later as indicated. Much appreciated. I think that is the same fellow I visited with maybe in 99 him asking if I wanted a TST. We will see when the time comes.

Thanks Again

Saw an Atlantic Blue and silver 01 or 02 (?) today at Parker Road and around Arapahoe Crossing area. You turned into the enterance of Piney Creek Village and then made a U-turn. Saw the TDR badge in the upper left part of the grille. I had my work van so you wouldn't have seen me anyway.

Don't know who you are, but "HELLO" anyway

Got off at I-70 heading east. Had yellow door signs, couldn't get upside to get a business name. I got off at 6th Ave. Didn't notice any TDR stickers. Who the heck are ya?
