Have the truck in my signature line and it is in very good condition and has never been modified with 80K miles

I am considering upgrading to a 4th generation truck with the 6. 7l to get a higher towing capacity as I want to legally tow up to 13K. Don't say modify my existing truck because I'm not going down that road.

I see some people say the 06/07 5. 9 l trucks are in demand on the used market. How do I determine its real value or what I can really expect to get and is a getting a used 6. 7l worthwhile deal or should I just look at new and get exactly what I want. I tend to keep my trucks for a while and don't see many 4. 10 3500 crew SRW on the market.

Any real changes between 08 and 12 that are worth considering?

I've looked at the Ram truck website already. Is there any short summary on the differences in the interiors? I would like navigation but may not get the Laramie package if I don't have to. Leather is nice but I'm not convinced it is worth the extra jack after owning one with leather.

Thanks for any advice,

Ben

I had a 1500 2006 quad cab SLT. The differences in the interior are more than you would expect. The new 2011 crew cab SLT Big Horn has much better interior materials, details and finish. For instance the carpets seem to be twice as thick and heavy. It seems to me that the 06's represent the worst of the cost cutting or nearly so. The controls all work better, the EVIC is really nice (for instance changing the horn squawk for locking).

I have no measurements to support this, but the cab seems quieter on the highway than the '06 which was a 5. 7L hemi. The stereo system on mine is fancy, more so than I would have bought if it was not on the lot (and the deal I got because of that) and has the built in GPS as well as a hard disk to record music on. I really like the hard disk for music, I have nearly 300 songs, and I don't need to remember to take a new CD out to the truck and or have a pile of them in the truck.

My only caution is to not just take a lark and drive a new one you might then have a bad case of got to haves.

On the negative side, the quoted oil change interval seems really optimistic for my driving. Fuel mileage is not as good, especially since mine seems to regen the DPF every tank of fuel and mileage drops to 10mpg when that happens even on the highway at cruise.

How many miles, is it stock and in good condition? Try to get 5K over blue book. My brother got a loan for 26K on my 04. 5 that blue book showed it to be worth 21k.

Around here, your '06 5. 9L Mega 4x4 auto with 80K would sell somewhere around $30K or so. There was one on Pittsburgh craigslist last week with 124K on it that went for $28K. I'm not sure about your area, but the late 5. 9's here are pulling very high resale values.

Ok. Thanks for the guidance.

I'm trying to get an idea of the approximate cost differential of selling my truck and buying a new or used 6. 7l.

If you get a truck you might as well go New that way you don't get a shined up Bucket that has been Trashed

I would love to but I started looking at prices for what I really want. . 3500 4wd crew cab short bed Laramie package and the price to start is 53 to 55K.

How much off MSRP are dealers really going to give ?

Shop around you can get good deal's just do your home work . And only reason I said new is you never know if the truck was traded in because it was starting to have troubles and they dumped it for that reason and the the Dealer just Polishes a Turd

Ben, I'm doing the same here in W. Texas. I have an '07 5. 9 quad dually, auto, 4x4, that I'm thinking of replacing with another of the same build. One dealer quoted 16000 trade over the phone, with about 10,000 off sticker on a ST or SLT. I have the new truck fever, I guess.

I have had 3 Ram diesels so far-1997, 2005 and now a 2012 HO. This is an interesting post because prior to buying this truck, I was looking for an 06/07 Megacab like yours, and drove some. I found several between 25k miles and 65k miles (my limit).

The nicest one was $38k!! That's a lot of bones for a 6 year old truck with no warranty(though I never had to use my warranty on my others it is a possibility).

After much consideration I ended up test driving a new one and let me tell ya, it's night and day to anything Dodge has ever built! This HO with 3. 73 runs better than my 05 with an Edge Attitude. The mileage has been netter than expected after reading others complaints. BTW, there is two incentives right now-a $2000 and extra $1000 on diesel 2500's-not sure about the 3500. I ended up getting $6k off sticker and a great trade in from Expressway Dodge here in southern Indiana. It was more than I ever wanted to spend on a truck, but the value for what you get is also better than anything except a house.

One thing to watch-I test drove 2 identical HO trucks, both supposedly with the 3. 73. The one I bought had much better response than the one I didn't buy. The acceleration is just completely different, so I'm wondering if they are having issues with incorrect gear ratios still???????

Thanks for the links.

MP,

I am sure a new one would be just tremendous but $$$$$ ouch.

Hope you enjoy your new truck!!

Ben
