Through the return system. Out the banjo in the back of the head and back to the tank, you'll never see it. Same thing can happen if you ding/knick a crossover tube pushing an injector in. Scar the surface and the fuel leaks by. Doesn't take much of a ding at 20k psi.

So, it just goes through the return system, not in the crankcase? Told my boy to do an oil change to play it safe .
 
Yes. The large o-ring on the injector body is above the crossover tube connection, the copper washer at the tip is below. Leakage from in between these two will go out through the return banjo. I suppose if one of the o-rings were bad you could get it up into the oil but the oil would then be able to leak down and get into the return fuel as well. I've never heard of either of those happening. There is a return volume test to identify the problem you just experienced.
