POLL: What to do about the Drug problem?

I'm comming up on three years sober. One beer was never enough... Almost lost my wife and family. I'm a hellovalot better without and not afraid to say it. Chris

One or two swallows of red wine is all I have had. I can't afford to loose brain cells, I have a hard enough time thinking as it is. Plus the stuff smells nasty and causes SOOO much death and hurt out on the roads due to those who are irresponsible.

Let's Face it - call a spade a spade - you're a Drug ADDICT

My mom was an alcoholic and so was my uncle (raised by grandparents). I didn't drink till I got married - not the reason. For 27 years I drank and for over 5 years I haven't had a drop. I'm still am around folks who can't imagine having a good time without a drink! Hey, I was that way not to long ago. I know drinkers will disagree, I know I would have 6 years ago, but there are few things in life more harmful than booze! And None that are legal AND sold by the government of many States - without a perscription. And the advertising and media insure that you can't possibly have a good time without a Drink! And the sheep follow. Oh I can hear it now, well I love a good drink, and I only drink socially. Just ask yourself a couple of questions--1. When was the last time you went a week without drinking - and healing up from a drunken wreck doesn't count? 2. Do you drink to get a buzz on? If not - why not non-alcoholic beer etc. You can get use to the taste. Let's be honest - it's the drug effect that you really want! I know it was for me. I looked at what I spent for booze - wow - and if you're honest with yourself, the annual cost would scare you to death - and to think you are the biggest supporter of Big Government by paying those Huge Booze Taxes! Well, keep it up, I like you taking away my tax burden. But I'd pay a little more, and feel a lot safer, if you didn't!

hammersley, well put!

I have been known to have a little nip now and again ( fellow NWBOMBers even have pics :( )

Oh well, to error is human.

I just got my Fuel Bill today... looks like my diesel habit is getting worse.

i've probably had less than 15 beers in my entire lift, and about a bottle's worth of wine. i don't see the need to drink, and i will not pay to do that. if it comes my way for free, hey, why not. i'm not going to get myself completely ****** ever; just don't want to do that. a 24 pack of coke or other pop is much cheaper than a 24 of beer, and that is what i perfer.

i voted "a little".

Not as much as I used to.

Until just recently I was quaffing 4-8 beers every day. Sometimes wine.

Now it's only 1 or 2 daily -unless it's a social or it's really hot.

Guinness is great! and there used to be a Porter out of the PNW... is it back on the market? Super brew!

Did I read somebody say that beer is nasty and that he drinks Jagermeister? Go figure!

I also believe that the Bible says not to drink. I know that is going to open up a can of worms, but this forum is for expressing ideas and opinions, right? Just read I Peter 4:1-4. My $. 02

The Bible does not say not to drink. The scripture you mentioned says excesses with wine, which is drunkeness. Remember, the first miracle Jesus did was changing water into wine when they ran out at a marriage feast.

I have been trying to drink two Scotch and waters a night for health reasons. From everything I have read 2 per night is real good for your health, anymore than that is not. I have been able to do this at least 5 nights per week.

Forrest <-- beer lover

When I grew up my parents owned a bar. I was sitting on customers laps having beer very young. I was stealing cases out of storage @ 12. I was a happy drunk, but I couldn't drink enough. Wasn't happy untill I passed out. Used to run the neiborhood with my buddies drinking and driving. This continued after my children were born. I'll never forget seeing my father falling down stairs, around the house. What did my children think?

I tried AA. A very good friend was helping me at that. I just couldn't stop.

Back in '93 my pressman (these guys drank @ work,me just on weekends)bet me I couldn't go a week without a beer. I haven't touched one since. Right before that I had a BIG drunk @ a sister in laws wedding, so it came together then. I wanted to stop before then. It has cost me a marriage and half my life. I wish I never started!

I went to a concert w/my son . It was sponsered by alcohol. It made me sick, the way it was pushed that you have to drink to have fun.

I recently had a Dentist gass me. I hated that feeling of no control.

I LOVE MY SOBERIETY.

Sorry for rambling but this is a sore subject for me.

nothing but respect for the guys who have put it down... I've had my bouts, and I currently feel like I've got a handle on things... I don't loose control anymore and I don't drink and drive... and believe it or not, I HATE getting gassed at the dentist... I refuse it now...

to be perfectly honest w/ you, and I know this might not be "PC", but I've found that smoking a little bit of god's green herb keeps me from drinking so much... if I have a couple brews and a couple puffs (literally... when I was in highschool, I used to smoke pot like it was air, but these days it's LITERALLY a puff... my buddies make fun of me, but I'm not trying to get all retarded!)

anyhow, if I have a couple brews and a puff or two, it sets me right... if there's no herb around, I tend to drink more...

I'll shut up now... but, again, big respect for the guys who put it all down and made their lives better!

If people would do a little research and read up on the history of weed and forget all the BS-hype that big brother dumps on us, they'd find out that there is no drug with less side-effects and more medical benefits that the ol' doobie. And it doubles as a recreational drug!

Not that I smoke, I've just learned a lot about medical marijuana in my studies of alternative medicine/nutrition and find it a bloomin' shame that we can't get over some BS "reefer madness" mentality and start helping people (those with AIDS, MS, Glaucoma, Migraine, Pain-to name a few)and save them some money. That's the bottom dollar. The pharmaceuticals can't make a dime on backyard weed.

YES, I have written my congressmen.

how's that for opening a can?

Wade,

a very good friend of mine is a doctor... (one of the good ones... he's been an ER doc for ~15yrs, isn't "in it for the money", etc. (though he does make a good amount!)

anyhow he doesn't drink, smoke, etc. never touched any drugs, runs, surfs (he's cool... half a century old, listens to punk music, surfs, and has a house on the beach and a great healthy family!), etc.

he told me that if I were going to injest anything with the intent of altering my concious state, it should be marijuana! he's never done it and probably never will, but he sees the worst damage of ALL drugs, first hand... both physical to the body and peripheral damage from driving, fighting, falling, etc. says that marijuana is hands-down the safest thing you could do... safer than coffee even...
