Thought Mode Door 1 was broken, but now it works. Why?

I don't know if this has been posted before, but I figured out a simple solution to disabling the door chime/key in ignition warning. Two problems were taken care of with this modification. First, I like to listen to the radio with the doors open, truck not running when I am working near the truck. With the key in the switch and turned back to accessory so the radio will play, the stupid chime thing keeps beeping. Second, I like to leave the truck running, but lock the doors while I run into a convenience store or choke and puke. If the key is in the ignition, the electric locks won't work from the remote or from the driver door switch.

The solution to both of these problems was to grind just a little from the tip of the key. This enables you to pull the key out just slightly with it still in the switch and in "on" or "accessory" position, but opens the door chime circuit. The locks will lock and the radio will play, but the horn honk/lights flash indicator does not occur and the radio lights go out. It is a nice solution without any wiring modification. It may be a solution for folks with the auto transmission who hate the door open/moving horn alarm.

I just took maybe around a millimeter off the end of mine. Not sure exactly, but it barely even shows. I would suggest trial and error. it worked great for me the first time. I only did it to my "pimary" key and holding the two factory keys up side by side, you can barely tell the difference, except the outer chrome is gone from the tip ground one.

i can remotely lock my doors [key fob] with the truck running on my truck... ????

yeah same here. I have one of them quick disconnect things and seperate my ignition key from the rest of the keys when I run into a store or something.

Now, one time, just one time I had access to a RAM 1500 (98/99-ish) that when the key was in acc, no door chimes!, but if in on, and truck off, it woudl ding all day long.

The bone head that keeps programming in the idea that if you PLACE the key in ACC and expecially have the radio on and that damn chime goes off, he/she needs to be SHOT a few times... What a dumb idea.

I flip the door latch up to the "closed" position on my truck to listen with the door open. Simple and free! Just don't forget to pull the handle to release it before you shut the door. :)

Anyone know how to disable the chip in the key so my truck will run with a simple hardware store duplicate Key. I'm sure you know the truck shuts down after ten seconds with a key that has no chip.
