Out of curiosity, what is the advantage to running a dry sump and what kind of HP gains could it yield?

I was wondering the same thing, because it has always been my understanding that the advantage to running a dry sump system is based on getting more oil higher up in the engine when turning sharp or banked turns, or doing some serious 4 wheeling where the engine is at such an angle that a regular oil pump wouldn't sufficiently lubricate the motor.

I'm not sure why a 1/4 mile truck or any truck used on the road would need this enhancement. I am no expert, so I may be wrong...

Greg, out of curiousity, I was wondering when we look at all these pics you post from within the walls of Raymac's shop where are all these OTHER diesel engines that you tell us ol Ray is working on ? ?

There are plenty of advantages with running a drysump set-up, on a gas engine, does it matter on a diesel engine- that remains to be seen... . and with Greg having a new build going on his engine it would be too hard to figure just how well it is on a diesel- if he still had the 8. 72 combination and then he added the drysump then we would have a closer idea on how well it would work. But when you change to a different cam profile- go to roller bearings and new turbo and drysump- how can one pinpoint how well this idea of this gasser setup yields on a diesel?

The advantage to running a dry sump is better oil control, and the ability to pull a vacuum in the crank case, every car that is allowed a dry sump in drag racing has one, for several reason. .

Removes horsepower robbing crank case pressure. Makes it easier for the engine to turn over, especially at higher rpm's.
