Ok I don t get to do this too often, but on the rare occasion I dont have a trailer behind me I look around for the ricers. But this time I got the challenge from a BRAND NEW with 30 day tags still in the window, Chevy 454 SS 1500. Nice looking truck too. This guy comes up to me at the light, and asks me, "can you back up all the noise your making?" i simply reply well I guess you will have to find out. Well I followed him out of town a little ways (salina is fairly small only took 2 min. ) we got side by side. Both counted to 3. And took off. Now before I say who won, I will admit I believe the driver couldnt drive. But as I am trying to find the poor black Chevy in the cloud of soot, I thought to myself, this guy should have whopped me. I weigh 2k-2. 5k more than he does, that 454 with a chip in a light truck should kick my butt. But I will chalk it up to the #11, 300's, homemade air intake. and pretty good driving abilitly. I just wanted to share my little cute story of smoking an unsuspecting country boy with a new toy.

P. S.

These country folk have no idea I have moved to town, but they will,,, ohhhhhhh THEY WILL... :D

about the 454 ss

Me being a big time Dodge person, I am going to go to bat for the 454 ss. This truck is the one that revived what we do with our trucks. The last performance truck before the 454, was the Lil Red Express back in the late 70's. This truck was a quick put together by GM and was to only help in sales in the down economy of the early 90's. this motor was rated at around the mid 200's for horsepower, and in the 300's for torque. Compare that to the last 454 that came out of the GM trucks, and that is a low output engine. Ok, that's my . 02 worth. I'm sure I that I have just shook up the pot on this, but it's only fair to show what the 454 had then.

The new Chevy SS's are heavy for one,I have only seen them in excabs so far,and they are only 6. 0 liters. I have a test on one and it ran 14. 8 in the 1/4 mi. They are 345 HP,it is the Caddilac Escalade engine. The truck is AWD and weighs about 5500 empty, which is about 1100 lbs more than the original 1990 ss454,and the new one with all its handicaps will still smoke the original by . 7 sec in the 1/4 mi. I hope to see one soon. I will tun the comp on 1x5 and play with him,let him think it was close:D

I think we need to come up with some little jap flag stickers that you can put on the side of your truck everytime you blow away a ricer. Just like the WW2 fighter planes had when they shot down a jap.

Hey like I said that truck should have probably beat me but I beleive the driver was not on his game. I have a little juice but not enough to beat him as bad as I did. I weigh in at 8200. So with the power that truck has it defenitly would have beat me with a compitent driver. So don't think I was baggin on the motor or the truck just the driver.

Russell,

I ran a 454SS with my '55 back in the early '90's. My sightly warmed :D 302 ran along side of him till his rev limiter hit. I really expected to get spanked.

Smoke story's... . well lets see how about a still day with non streetable injectors making a pass from 55-100 MPH and the cloud was bar ditch to bar ditch 30ft high and in no way could you see through it..... does that qualify... . guess I should have taken a shot of it.

Got to play with a new Ford SVT lightning today!

Wow, these trucks are fast! he had a little more acceleration than I did, but I had more weight... he got on the highway, and mashed it as he went by me with a big :D on his face, so we played for about 5 miles through traffic. we got side by side, and I smoke braked it to build up boost, and he barely got away from me there, but the whole scene behind us was black thanks to my ol' stinky pipe..... Needless to say, we both waved, and smiled as he jumped off the exit... too bad we cant have more fun like this instead of people looking over at you when you beat them, or get beaten, giving you the  look, ya know?? Oh well... . just a little post. .

Went to a family reunion south of San Antonio Sunday, and on the way my wifes cousin in his 2003 Powerstroke pulled out on the highway in front of me. :) I told her that I have been waiting for this for a while. The truck has a programmer and intake and exhaust , So I got beside him and coaxed a highway race out of him, SMOKED him! :D :D Then he followed me into a small town and stayed behind me, Soo, I really Smoked him this time:D :D :D His girlfriend asked why I out ran him and he said because he's going to have to spend anouther grand to catch up. Then and after I smoked him out, she asked if something was wrong with my truck, He said no it's just a Cummins on crack! :D I told my wife not crack just vivrin crack comes later!!

I had a porsche boxter tail-gating me on an on ramp this afternoon, with the top down I might add. ;) Well he wasn't being very patience and swerved around me, right into the passing lane about 100 yards before the on ramp even merged onto the highway. Well as soon as he was about to fly by me I nailed it! The look on his face was priceless!! He didn't even have a chance. As I pulled away I slipped in front of him in the passing lane and then lifted of the throttle to loose the boost and then I "accidentally" gave it a little too much fuel at low boost. Boy those stacks really lay out the smoke at the right height for convertibles. He followed me for about 5 miles and staying several hundred yards back. Darn! I was really hoping he would try for round two!:D

This past thursday, I got followed to work.....

by an off duty State highway patrol officer in uniform! He said he had been following me for about 10-15 miles, trying to catch me... My thought: "Hmm, if he had a motor in his suburban he could have probably kept up with me, and RAN with me, not chase me down!":-laf :-laf I got the lecture of how much smoke I was putting out, and told him that it looks worse at night, and how I think I had a dirty fuel filter or something. . He threatened to take me to jail, which I told him I needed to know by 7 AM, so I could call in and take a vacation day, and not get written up... Long story short, he got mad because I was doing my normal morning cruise to work, not bothering anyone, and I learned that the city police change shifts at 6 AM... . That means one thing: OPEN ROAD!! FREE FOR ALL!!!! all but this one day at least!
