No one's safe

Ok, I hate to tell this story on myself but the last time I was at the track (the only smokin' diesel there as usual) I had just finished a good smokin' run and was on the return road. As I came back in, there was a lady and her brat kid walking on the right hand side and this kid was making all these smart eleck gestures (pinching his nose etc. ). Oh? I let off the throttle and idled by and yes  I have to admit it, gave him and his momma a good smoke clouding as I went by.

Well I had one incident last week where I had to use the 6000 lb fogger. I went to the shopping mall to get some grub (sashimi baby!), and I got a stall right in front of the entrance, seems this was the teeny boppers convention entrance, you know the one where they all come to eye up patrons, hog the public phones, block the walk way and the girls try to flaunt what they don't got. So my cousin and I walk around them, literally, and I have to calm my cousin down cuz she just wants to lay the smack down. So I get my snack and we're headed out, it's amazing how big and tough some kids think they are, ahhh the childs imagination, you gotta love it, so I see some girls standing by the phone doing their little elementary giddy talk on the phone leaning against my front bumper, now my first instinct is to throw someone across the road, but maturity kicks in, so I give my cousin the look to just get in the truck. I get in they give me the stupid snobby look and I smirk, pump a little pedal a little then fire her up, idle up to about 1000, then to 1100, then to 1200 and then I just held it there and stared them down. The girl on the phone was trying to continue her conversation but it did no good. Then I looked at her tribe sitting down, not one of them knew what to do, they were all in aw, guess they thought their little rice burners were loud. After about 30 seconds they got the message and went in to the mall mumbling under their breath:D. It was great.

hehe,, run big injectors and a "Hot" box for long enough with stacks and not only will they ge smoke on start-up, but a very neat Diesel-Soot confetti rain. Sticks to anything,, smears real bad when touched, doesn't come off until washed.

Time, 9:00 PM,,

I've had my share of smoking people out,, the funnest thing to do is to turn peoples lights out,, I've completely blanked out a 3-Lane road, 1 lane south, 3 lanes north,, (okay 4-lanes, 3 blanked out) I had about 8 cars total behind me, so I shot out from the intersection,, slowed down when I was about 10-13 car lengths in front, made sure a PDR HX-40 with 18 housing and DD Drug Pushers were installed,, the Comp Box was on 5x5 (as Always) and Shifted into 6th gear,, made sure RPM was about 1200 RPM, boost was Zero,, and Put the Fuel Pedal to the floor. About 2-3 seconds lights started getting dim, 3 more seconds and a few were turning off, a few more seconds and 1500 RPM the turbo started spooling hard (20PSI and climbing fast), so I lifted off the Fuel and watched the rest of them COMPLETELY DISSAPPEAR,, I felt a touch of sympathy, then a little immature, and then I thought,, Theres a little bit of Cummins Power for ya,, heh. :D

I don't do it much, but I was going to a dyno event, so I figured, what the heck, about 4-5 blocks later I had a late 60's Camaro trying to race, an '01 Dodge/Cummins Tow-Truck wanting to race (He beat me,, I was to scared to get a ticket, I stopped and talked to him,, he had it turned up, but he didn't know what he was talking about), Later an ~'00 Mustang tried to play, but I just put the cruise at 85 and he slowly faded away.

Yup,, I've said I'd get pictures,, I will,, I just have to synch up with my friend who has the digital camera.

Chris, No, I personally like the smell of diesel. I just don't like the bad name that some give us in the name of sooting up and punnishing their own engine. Almost as bad as diesel snipping. "I don't like the way that person looked at me, so why not pour unburnt diesel on them, make all diesels look bad, and diesel owners look like idiots". These people are ignorant to the facts of diesel power, so what do some do? Turn them over to the darkside with a act of stupidity. These are the same people who will back any diesel bans now and for time to come.

I had a kid ask me one time "Why my truck was so loud" with a grimace. I shut my engine off at the drive thru of a Mickeydees and explained the princible of diesel injection. He sat there giving me looks of dismay and then said "Thank you" and I drove off. I saw him two months later driving a CTD! He waved and smiled.

Well I had to get another smart @ss today...

I was cruising home from work, and happened to look over at some guy in a Toyota Avalon type car rolling his eyes, and laughing at me... . This made me a little bit   ... I DO NOT THINK SO!!! It took me a few minutes to get in front of him, and to where I had 2 lanes, so I could get ½ in his lane to let the smoke do its thing. I got a little bit in front of him, wrapped 4th out to 3,000, goosed it between 4th and 5th, made a large black POOF of smoke, hit 5th, and lost him!!! :-laf :-laf ... . To my surprise, he catches up for a second fogging!! So, doing my duties, I left it in 5th, floored it, and watched him disappear... he got up on the side of me, and this time I WAS THE ONE LAUGHING!!! :D I do not normally do this, but c'mon... the jack@ss was laughing, so I thought I would get the last laugh!!!

Chris- Take some anger management..... obviously you need it. CF- You're waisting your time trying to explain it to them, they'll never get it. When they can no longer buy a diesel powered truck, then they might just get it.

Kev

Champane....

I almost never agree with you, but this time you make perfect sense.

Charlan, you smoke somebody because they laughed at you?

You people who rejoice in smoking are rocking the boat and not using your powers of reason.

Grow up, Please

I usually let them enojy a momentery "Very thick Diesel Cloud" before I let them see what 457RWHP/950TQ can make a 7,500 pound dually do.

The sound of my PDR '40 at full boost, and my truck at full fuel is a nice sound to let bounce off walls, and other vehicles,, not to mention mufflerless dual 5" stacks.

Sounds awesome!

Merrick, I bet it sounds awesome when spooled and rolling.

I personally like to try to do away with the puff of black smoke and try to keep my oil clean for 12000 miles. I think it is more of a challange to keep the smoke away, it takes restraint NOT to mash the go pedal, just ease into it. Once spooled up and rolling, then ease her on down for that wonderful music. You will find the black cloud is not needed. I also like the idea of keeping the inside of my engine nice and clean with a minimum of soot.

That's too cool. I try to be helpful to folks who ask questions as well. I too kill the rattle at drive up windows. Once at a drive-up food place (in my ford which was looking ratty) I drove around because the speaker/order thing was f-up, killed the engine and talked to the lady about what was the cheapest. I'm sure she has plenty of folks BOOM BOOMing her to death at that location. She took pity on me (I was looking ratty too) and my truck- I realized later when I found 3 sandwiches and two orders of fries and had only ordered 2/1. :D

Well here is my smoke story and I'm not too sure if I have posted it already in some other thread so bear with me if I have. I was pulled over for the "smoke" at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs and for the music my truck was making. Mr. Peddle bike officer went on to tell me that I need to have my truck checked because it was smoking so much and was too loud. I tried to explain to him that my truck was a diesel but he didn't want to hear it:rolleyes:. Then he saw that my truck didn't have an emission sticker on it and went on to tell me that he was going to write me a citation for no emissions sticker and no visible muffler. Anyways since my truck is registered in a different county that doesn't have emissions regulations he wasn't able to do anything and had to let me go:D. So just to be a good sport I decided to give him a nice cool "smoke bath" when I left which I'm sure he enjoyed since I wasn't able to see him behind me through the dark black cloud:cool:

Dkev... . No problem with anger here... Its all in good times; about the equivalent of a ricer wanting to race. . It is just too tempting with the 191's for smoke and the HX40 to blow the smoke out!:D Baby... . It was not the fact that he was laughing at me, it was the manner of how he did it... Also, if you dont like it, you dont have to read it! I am grown up, and have worked very hard to get my truck where it is... It just so happens that a blast of soot was appropriate in this case. sorry if it got you hot and bothered, but I am sure you would do the same at one time or another in your life. If not, oh well. I did it, and its a done deal.

ME hot and bothered????????

We've all heard 'sticks and stones' etc. That goes for laughter as well.

You're right though, I wasn't there, so how the heck would I know?

Myself I prefer to drive like it's a fully loaded 18 wheeler, rather than a race car.

Stay cool,

Jay

I usually never intentionally smoke people, they usually get an unintended light gray cloud when I get on it a little.

Then there are the people that ride your bumper like your towing them. I have absolutely no problem giving them an unrestrained large black cloud to back them off a little. I pay attention to the drivers around me when I do this and they usually get a kick out of it because I let the jerk off ride my butt for a while, so everyone know what he gets it for. :D

Thought I was alone on this...

Dkevdog, baby. driver, & Champane - I thought I was the only TDR member that felt this way about smoke. I too tend to drive mine more like a loaded 18 wheeler than a sports car. I had sportsbikes for years up until a year or so ago. I actually raced WERA in '97 & '98 (tons of fun!). Got plenty of crash experience too. After those experiences even the fastest Cummins trucks are slow to me, so now I don't care to have mountains of power and smoke. But I do have a little extra. :D Enough to pull my 9,500 lb. 5'er down the interstate satifactorily. That's all I need. But those who want more - more Cummins power to ya!

Everybody - I don't have a problem with anybody blowing smoke. But I do think there's a time and place for it. Blowing big clouds on people who are idiots is justifiable. I do remember a particular event with a couple hundred Cummins trucks. There was this poor cycler pedalling innocently down the side of the road and about 1/2 the trucks I could see (in front & behind) let 'em have it. I was completely stock so I couldn't have smoked him out even if I had wanted to. Ok, ok, it was a little funny, but the poor guy got completely smoked out about 8 to 10 times that I saw. I'm sure the smoke clouds kept coming. After that innocent was smoke slain I decided if I ever made smoke I wouldn't smoke-out the innocent.

I don't get much smoke with 275's and an EZ (with elbow). Especially after running Stanadyne, which claims to reduce smoke and did so in my truck. In that few tanks of it I ran, I couldn't get any smoke out of mine. Seems to have a residual effect as well cause the smoke is only starting to slowly comeback. The only significant smoke I can make is when I'm pulling my 5'er, and just getting it in the next gear (from a traffic light or something) and lay on it trying to get out of the way of traffic. I get a good haze then, but still not too bad.

Don't get me wrong guys, I don't think bad of anyone for their smoke levels or timing, I just feel a little different about it. I suspect that the vast majority of people assume smoke equals a crappy running diesel truck, since the vast majority know little or nothing about diesels. I'd try not to protray that for those who don't know.

Charlan - Just a question out of curiosity. What exactly do you think the guy in the Avalon may have been laughing at you about? Had you done something already, or did he just think something about your truck was funny? Just curious...

JyRO... . I am not too sure, but if it were a comical laugh, it would be different... The type of smirk he had was somewhat like a "What a piece of Junk" type look... take a look at my gallery and tell me if its just me, or if my ride really is junk... I know, I know, it could be 4x4... . but That's how the cookie crumbles!!
