Make damn sure they align your truck and center the wheel before doing the recall.
I also called them and talked to a very nice lady. But even on the phone I could tell I was getting the deer in the headlights look when I said this an adustable part that will no longer be adjustable. Then proceeded to tell her it was a very cheesy way to fix the problem and they are not going to be welding on my truck. Her response was...."that's your choice". Grrrrr...
I probably should have asked to speak to a higher up, but I was getting pretty steamed at that point.
A few days later I got an email from Ram asking how my conversation went, and I laid it out what a ridiculous way to fix this problem. Never heard back.
I agree that this is a safety issue. My truck as I have said before is now 5 years old , those paint marks have remained lined up for 5 years now. As said I will continue to check it, but have no plans to have them messing with it, just not going to happen. Doesn't need to be fixed. If they come up with a new part, great I will let them replace it, but they are not going to weld on my truck .
Let me ask, do you have a problem with yours, are the nuts coming loose, the paint marks out of align ??
I'm certainly not going to tell you what to do with yours, but as I have said, mine has not moved, nor come loose, and plan to do nothing other then keep an eye on it. I believe they messed with it when they did the track bar recall. It seems when I got it back the steering wheel was off center, went back ,and they corrected it. As said paint marks are lined up , and steering wheel remains centered .
From the looks of it yours has had something done to it, two different sets of paint marks ,and color. Mine are also blue, but no green. wondering if the green was added if your truck was involved in the track bar recall . Thats a bit strange two different colors. Had to have been adjusted at one time or other, and maybe remarked ??
I have seen others with blue and green marks that belonged to the original owner and have had never been aligned. So who knows why?
I understand the drag link is only for centering the steering wheel, I was including that as part of the alignment which is why I was saying it would likely cost more. In general, the steering wheel should stay constant but there is some play, (especially as the truck gets some miles on it). The adjustment allows you to get it as straight as possible. When you lose that you then need to allow extra time in aligning the truck to get the wheel straight. May not be a big deal to some but it is something we had and now lost because of the fix...JMHOyou can still get an alignment....the drag link is only used to center the steering wheel not adjust the toe. Unless you change the suspension....you should not need to adjust the drag link again....IMHO.
