Well, after some serious thought, and much research on the TDR, as well as other forums and web sites, I changed my mind today. The only thing that I have been mulling over was the 48RE I had ordered with my new truck. I thought it would be a nice change, but the faithful service and amazing towing and hill flatening ability of my 01' kept haunting me.

So this morning I called a Dealer here in Norco, Frahm Dodge, that reportedly is the largest volumn truck dealer in So. Cal. I saw on their web site that they in fact had many 04. 5' in stock, and wanted to verify for myself. They had the truck I wanted in stock, just with the 6 speed instead of the 48RE. I took the wife and drove out to the dealership, and after I drove it for a while, kicked the tires, and played a little give and take with internet sales manager, we made a deal in minutes.

On the way home I breathed a huge sigh of relief that I picked the 6 over the auto. I tow heavy quite often, (11 to 12K) and may be even heavier in a few years when I retire, and the I know that the sixer will handle anything I throw at it. Oh, and I did get the Flame red that I had desired when I first brought up the idea of the new truck to the wife. The blue that I ordered was kind of a comprimise.

So, this is the new baby:

2004. 5, 3500, 4X4 dually, Quad Cab, long bed, six speed, tow mirrors, power seats, fold flat floor, light group, protection group, tow group, Stereo CD, leather wrap steering wheel, Power adjustable pedals, side air bags, and the floor mount 4WD shift lever (i'm kinda traditional). And of course, FLAME RED BABY!!

OK, I'm better now... ..... I will add a picture to the post when I get a minute. Now I can start really spending some "fun money" on the cool stuff to get ready to tow.

I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!!! Sarge :D :D :D Oo. Oo. Oo.

Awesome!:D Great color too!!:D What happens to one that you ordered, though? Will you lose your deposit?

Congrats on truck!:D

Congrats. We want to see pics. I too "almost" went with the six-speed - I have one in my current truck, and love it. With the supposed new reliability of the 48RE, I made the tough decision to go auto. I won't miss the 6-speed in my daily stop and go commute, but I will miss it otherwise.

Did you buy this truck from the same dealer where your order was placed, and did you lose your deposit?

The new truck came in at about 35,800. The one I had ordered was going to be about 36,600. We haggled some, and after the dust settled I got him to throw in an alarm system, some dually mud flaps, and life time oil changes, with filter. Not bad considering it also had some stuff that I didn't order on the truck I started with, like side air bags, and adjustable pedals. I gave up body side molding, and steering mounted audio controls. All in all, I made out.

As for the other truck, I will call the other dealer Monday and tell him. I paid no deposit, so there is nothing to lose. When I ordered it he told me that the way I was setting it up, if I didn't want it he would put it on the lot and sell it. So, no worries.

And now I can get back to pulling the RV, and setting up "big red" to be perfect. Man this son-of-a-gun is big!!

I gotta raise the pin on the 5'ver, and lower the plate on the hitch. I fit in the garage by about and inch height... ... ... ... Sarge

I'm having a hard time convincing myself to keep my current Ram.

The incentives, warranty, and overall the trucks looks have me checking out the local inventories a lot lately. If I can find one with all the stuff I want locally I may end up doing it. So far I found one close and they quoted me $32,600 or so plus TT&L which is supposed to be invoice and the current cash incentive. I didn't see anything on paper and haven't talked about the interest rate yet. That makes a huge difference too.

I drove a new GMC 2500HD that was loaded, had the rear seat DVD and stickered at $49K. Nice truck, nice ride, has the new LLY Dmax, the 590 Ft Lbs version but it has EGR now too. To me that truck is a nice daily driver but not a T R U C K. The Ram is much more macho!

Sounds like you made a great deal! Congrats. . Might I add that mud flaps should be put on the front also. Looking at my truck, they should have been there after the first mile. UGH!

the blue trucks chip just by looking at them!

nice truck

I think you made a good choice on the 6-shooter. Kinda wish i

went that way bein that i hardly ever drive in tha city. Hope you

got tha 3. 73 rear to use at least some of tha cummins low end

Torque on the highway. :p

I'll second on the flaps. Get some on there ASAP. Even if they are cheap ones, until you figure out what you really want. I got some cheap rubber ones to hold me until I get my NW Customs on. They just came in this week, so I will have some work to do this weekend.

Sarge after getting some miles on my truck the 6-speed shifts so nice it's not that big of deal. The 6-speed on my 2001 took a lot more effort to row. I have no regrets going with the 6-speed even though I drive a LOT around town. The clutch pedal pad is really showing it after only 24K miles.

Thanks guys, i'm still smilling like I stole something!! I put a Pac Brake on it today with the help of fellow Rammer Tim Jones. We had to redesign Pac's mounting system, cause DC put the radiator overflow bottle there now! It took some time, but it was worth it. I took some digital photos of the install if anyone is interested... ... ... ..... Sarge

Nice! Will it fit in the garage? :D

The PacBrake uses compressed air right? If so check into installing some big-rig air horns for those errant four-wheelers.
