Hmmmmmm

I need a new TV, looking for 50-60 inch models. I can't afford the new plasma types. I am leaning toward traditional projection tvs. like Hitachi, Mitsubishi, ect. I am also interested in the ones that use the DLP chip from Texas Instruments. They are a little more, but cheaper than Plasma.

Lets hear the good and bad.

I recently purchased a Panasonic 50" LCD projector. PT-50LC-14. It's beautiful, and my friends can't stop drooling.

I definetly recommend the DLP or LCD projector over a plasma or traditional projector. Both plasma and traditional projector screens are sensitive to burn in. We have several plasma screens at work that are burned in. Plus, plasma screens gradually get dimmer and dimmer as they age. Our plasma installer at work said if we leave the screens on 24/7 they will be completely burned out in 6 months.

My Dad has a 73" Mitsibushi TV,, well, more like a mini-theatre,, LOL.

Paid in the neighborhood of $7,000 3-4 years ago. It usually runs all day everyday, and it still works awesome.

bought a tv

I went with a 65" Mitsubishi Model WS65315 projection TV. HD ready - I have satellite, so I didn't need the HD tuner. TV regularly sells for $2199. 00 - got it for $1,797. 00. I really wanted a DLP tv but cannot swing the extra chunk right now, being Christmas and all.

Best pictures that I have seen are on the Sony Grand Wega LCD and the Samsung DLP. I think the Samsung is a couple hundred more then the Sony. I went with the Sony Grand Wega LCD 42" (perfect size for my small room). And I thought the picture of the Sony was a tad bit better in the football viewing department. Colors were a bit better corner to corner, along with flesh tones. But, that is with my eye sight, which is questionable at best. The picture is awesome in HDTV. These would be my top 2 choices.

Also, I bought mine through Crutchfield. Free shipping and no sales tax. Saved some money, $168. 00, going with Crutchfield over my local Circuit City or Best Buy.

I was looking at the Samsung DLP yesterday, and that is the one I liked best. The wife said no, cause of the pedestal base and 2 four year olds running amuck. It did have a spectacular picture.

My Mitsubishi is supposed to be delivered here any time now. They called at 8 am this morning and said 9-12 today.

Happy birthday to me :D Oo.

Is it wrong to still have a 25" television?

Nope. :)

Mine is a 27" RCA w/ the TV Guide+ Gold. Since I don't watch enough TV to need to buy the TV Guide mag. or to know what is on when, it works great, and FREE! I mostly watch movies, and don't have calbe/sat. A big screen would be cool for watching movies. :D

Well, my impulse buy of the weekend was the 50" Panasonic LCD and I can't believe how clear it is. It was between the Sony Grand Wega LCD 55" or 60" and the Panasonic. I liked the picture on the Panasonic more and it was 350. 00 less. The Panasonic has really easy access to hook the computer up(soon I will be surfing TDR on a 50" monitor :) ) or a 25" monitor and watching TV on the other half of the screen. I know all of the big models have this feature but it seemed that the panasonic had easier access to the hook ups.

Well, the TV showed up at about 11AM. We re-arranged the living room for it, and all I can say is "WOW" . The picture is great. I watched ID4 widescreen in surround yesterday after the Bengals game. It was soo good. I just love surround sound! I watched Shrek 2 afterwards. Now that is a work of art. The images were so perfect and lifelike - puss-n-boots. what a hoot.

I really Oo. , really :D , really Oo. like my new TV. (can you tell)

That's a nice unit. I looked at a similar one back in May when we replaced our TV. Decided to go with the 50" Sammy DLP though for space considerations. Our previous TV was a Mitsu 55" 4:3 projection deal that was purchased in 1990. That TV lasted almost 14 years with only a couple of repairs (vertical hold circuits). Hopefully yours will give you as little trouble as well.

Hope you enjoy it!!!

We got a new Mitsu 55" hdtv rear projection about a year ago. We like it. The only thing that bothered us was the glare. After removing the plastic screen cover it is much better. It was about 1,600.

I'm with you. I have a 22" Panasonic that I paid $219 for, and it works perfectly. I splurged and got the remote control and front panel A/V jacks :-laf

Maybe I need to find a better paying job, because I have NO WHERE NEAR the kind of money to where I can afford those sweet TVs you guys are getting!

My little old 52" Hitachi has worked for a year or two now without a hitch. I just wish DirecTV had more HDTV selections! :(

Don't forget the home theater audio system! :D

JT,

If it costs $2799, that is the set. I wanted the 50", but the darn thing was to big for my corner. Oh, and the Sony is made somewhere in Pennsylvania! I abought fell over when I saw that "Made in the USA/PA" on the box. I have had the set for about 10 months, works flawlessly.

Rusty,

Check out VOOM. It is a sat system with quite a few HDTV channels, available through Sears.

If any of you have a BUD (Big Ugly Dish), there is also 4DTV. There are quite a few HD movie channels avaible, but epuipment can be pricey. You need an 8ft dish or bigger, a Motorola 4DTV receiver and a HDD200 decoder for the HD signal. I have one, but have not taken the time to subscribe, use it mainly for audio feeds and my Digital Video Broadcast decoder. I like to watch the local news out of Anchorage AK, and for overseas programming.

There is also StarChoice, the Canandian equivalent of DishNetwork. I have this system, 9 HDTV channels as of now, mainly US network feeds (most all NFL games in HDTV, along with Nascar and some college football. NFL season pass is also available for about $80 CDN), and some movie channels. You need to use a Canadian broker to set up an account and you must purchase sat system seperately. This is all legal, no one is stealing any sat signals, I pay by the month, about $80 for everything, incld HD. The picture is incredible, way better then Dish or Directv. I have the Dish HDTV box, the picture is close quality wise, but not as good as the StarChoice. And there is no NFL in HDTV on Dish, other then an occassional ESPN game.

The reason I went with the Canadian StarChoice, is that was the only way I was able to get my local feeds out of Detroit legally. Dish and Direct have finally gotten that fixed for my area in the past year. Keeping the StarChoice, well worth it for the HDTV alone.

Here is a link to some info on StarChoice and other sat systems out there.

This link will get you right to the Canadian systems:

You might have to register to access, takes just a minute, but worth it. Nice guys over there, just like the guys here.
