Rusty,

Check out VOOM. It is a sat system with quite a few HDTV channels, available through Sears.
Mike,

Thanks - I've been watching their ads. Unfortunately, I have the 3-LNB oval dish at the house with the HDTV receiver downstairs, a conventional receiver upstairs and a 3rd receiver and old 1-LNB dish at the RV. I pay full boat for the HDTV receiver, and the other two are mirrored receivers (yes, even the one at the RV) for which I pay $4. 99/month. So, I guess I'm pretty well locked into DirecTV. :(

They keep promising that they'll be adding more HDTV programming soon! ;)

any of the lcd/dlp based rear projection sets are good... i like the sony the best myself, and i see it most often [i deliever them and set them up on the weekend] the toshiba ones are alright, but the picture on the tv with cable is lousy on them, but dvd and HD look great. the sony does the dvd and HD well too, but it does cable much better. for other brands, i can't say... yep, plasma burns in real easy and warrenty doesn't cover it [burns in quicker than older CRT sets]

BTW, does anybody know if sony makes a dvd recorder that will copy or burn dvds? I know they make one for recording tv shows. My wife kinda wants one for xmas.

Will the lcd rear projections burn the screen too? This is a real concern for me as I like to play xbox quite often, and I would hate to screw up an expensive tv.

no they will not burn in like a CRT projection set

i am not sure if they can do that with all the copy protection stuff on the discs, but i've got my eye on the new sony dvd recorder with the 160GB hard drive in it. i don't much care for the dvd burner, but i want the HD recording feature [we don't got tivo or replaytv here in canada :(] and i kinda need another dvd player for the family room [i'll keep my toshiba sd9200 for my home theater] to keep bumbling parents away from my stuff

I'm with you. I have a 22" Panasonic that I paid $219 for, and it works perfectly. I splurged and got the remote control and front panel A/V jacks :-laf

Whew, that makes me feel better, I was beginning to think that i needed a bigger TV just to be on this website. we have a 13", that way we can hide it during room inspections and we won't get in trouble, it snuggles in nicely with the xbox :-laf
