I've had a CTD for 10 years now. I can't even remember how many times I've taken the belt off and back on. I always knew it was spring loaded, but have been doing it backwards all this time... . thus, ruining 2 tensioners.

First thing I noticed about the new one was that the square hole is now 3/4", so I could use my breaker bar. Well, I had always put the belt into all the pulleys to start. Then, with the bolt still about 1/2" out, I would pry it down with a large screwdriver until I could push the nub on the back, into the hole. Then I'd tighted the bolt all the way.

To remove, I'd loosen the bolt until I could get the nub out, then pry the tensioner outward until the tension would snap the nub out. I can't believe that it held up all this time, as each truck already had 100k on them when I got them.

I write this for anyone out there that is actually this stupid, but doesn't want to publicly admit it. For the record, this time (after the light bulb went off in my head) I put the tensioner in place, with the nub in the hole and the bolt tightened almost all the way. I put the belt in all the pulleys except the alternator. I used my 3/4" breaker bar and tightened the spring on the tensioner and pulled the belt onto the alt pulley. Very much easier!!

OK, where did I put that dunce hat..... ?

I will try to think before I work.

I will try to think before I work.

I will try to think... ...

Yah Tug!

Standing "O" Oo. ... ... ... ... ... ... ... .

Hi.

My name is "Greenleaf", and I make mistakes too

Come ON GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ..... Don't leave Phil and I hang'n hear

... ... ... GUYS??????... ... ...

... ..... GUYS????????... ... ...

Ya I'm real smart too....

Try replacing your MAP sensor with a oil pressure sending unit, she don't run so good that way. By the way they look identical.

Try messing up everything you do... like oh, say. . breaking off the throttle shaft on the injection pump??? That's just the most recent thing...

:(

I wouldn't complain too much, I'm "Mr. Murphy's Law. "

How about forgetting to put the plug in the lifter gallery and wondering why there is no oil pressure?

Forgetting to torque the head bolts and heading for the race track. Bad... . bad... .

Forgetting that after you drain a differential its a good idea to fill it.

Uuuhh. I'm gonna quit now and go to my happy place... ... . :{ :{

OK, guess its time to fess up!:D

I cracked the small connecting shaft setup that goes into the bottom of the throttle position sensor. Of course this is NOT part of a new TPS unit and Dodge doesn't have one. Looks like it may be part of the bracket assembly and the A holes want over $500 for that! Told him I didn't want the whole pump assembly!!

There have been a few other things I did but I can use the "getting old" excuse and say I can't remember what they were!:D

OK, after reading Cerberusiams post about diff oil, I changed engine oil in my GTO. Replaced the filter, poured in 5 qts of new oil. Didn't show on the dip stick??? Looked under the car, huge puddle of oil on the gravel. Someone forgot to put in the damned plug!

You guys may not want to take my advice after this....

But, I had drained the oil out of the transmission of a then-new-to-me-93 W350, then the phone rang, and I had to go somewhere to get something. Hopped in, with no oil in the Getrag, went the 3 mi to whereever it was, then came back, and realized, "oh $#!t, I didnt refill the transmission. "

I've forgotten to put the drain plug bak into the engine after an oil change- cost me a gallon of oil.

I've gotten the guide pins on the rear wheels off center, then wondered why the lug bolts werent going on as far as they should.

Drove 10K mi with a blown head gasket I didnt know what it was. Just had this funny noise under load. Finally read on this page- www.dieselinjection.net - that in the bigger engines, it is most likely the head gasket.

Put a PDR HX35 on, not realizing they could rebuild and modify my H1C the same way.

Pumped master cylinder dry when bleeding/ flushing brake lines (chevy celibrity) and sucked in some air.

Forget how many self locking bolts I've corss threaded and just tightened down anyway.

Buying a trailer, then going through Stoddard County MO... .....

Got the internals of the governor of a Stanadyne DB2 (7. 3 Ford) backwards, and had it "idle" at 2200 rpm.

Using the exhaust manifold for a ground to weld exhaust, burning a hole through the turbo oil supply hose.

Didnt get the turbo drain hose tight enough on a 93 D350 when I changed exhaust housings- leaked/ burned up (on the down pipe) 6 qts of oil in 15mi. Blue smoke like you wouldnt believe.

Buddy of mine- had a tire going low on a chisel plow, and told me to bring it in to the shop half a mile away. Tire was GONE by the time I got there. If he had just brought out an air tank... ... .

So dont feel bad, guys, we all make mistakes. CB- if you can hold Murphy for a day or two till I can get there, I'll kick his @$$ across Montana.

about 30 years ago, i learned that it is a very bad idea to use an impact wrench to take the oil drain plug out.

it kinda acts like a horizontal sprinkler - if ya know what i mean.

Okay, back in the olden days when I was a pup and was the proud owner of a 65 F250 4x4 I also forgot to put the plug back in while changing oil. Luckily the puddle clued me in before I drove it. :(

About three weekends ago I rotated tires on my 3500 dually. Next time I will definately adjust the tire pressure before mounting the wheels... . duh!

Oh yeah, the best one. I had a 67 LandRover with a chevy Iron Duke four banger. One nice rig - rough and tough with a Warn Overdrive - sweet. Anyway I was rebuilding the carburator and need some gas as a solvent. So I put a 3 lb. coffee can under the fuel pump and cranked a couple times. Went and looked, needed more. Went and cranked a couple tmes. Went and looked just as the can when POOF  into flames. Natural reaction WHOOF (I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow that fire out). Singed the bejeezes out of my eyebrows. :--) Bolted for the fire extinquisher and hosed the mother down. sigh. live and learn. What a dumb @$$! :-laf

Oh, I almost forgot- I've broken 3 factory AFC hoses while resetting the timing- they arent made to bed too much I guess. I have an afro engineered set up on Mom's truck, seems to be working so far.

Well..... I can't think of what I screwed up for repair or maintenance... .

OK... . damn... ... I know the next time I'll be cursed... .

Jay

Oh man, Daniel... I thought I screwed everything up... :-laf

Well, I've never had any problem with the stuff you guys have done... I just always break stuff or get in a hurry and have to do things twice (or more).

righty tighty my @$$

I ruined a perfectly good turbo by trying to take the nut off of the compressor wheel. Only after hearing the loud "SNAP" did it occur to me that these things could possibly be left hand threaded:rolleyes:

I try to tell myself I'm really smart, and I can figure out anything, I just usually wait about 30 seconds after the REST of the world figures it out...

lil red cummins - horizontal oil sprinkler - ROFLMAO:-laf :-laf :-laf :-laf

When I posted that you should tape the speedi sleeve to protect it when you use a die grinder to cut off the excess, you can cut a groove in a perfectly new speedi sleeve quite easily. Costly mistake as I found out. Tim
