CSilkowski,
Isn't that the "Whiplash Shifter"?
I put 2 bends in my shifter to bring it a bit closer to the driver. It worked well.
I scotch taped two pieses of letter sized typing paper together & made a 'life-sized' drawing of the stock shifter & the modified shifter with the bends, on it. Took the shift lever to a tube bending shop & had them do the bending. I figured having someone that bends tubing for a living would insure a sucessful outcome. And it did.
One thing I would recommend is marking the shift lever before removing it so that you know the relationship of the lever when it's in it's tightened position. That way, the bender will know which way to place the bends (which side of the lever is up on the drawing).
Also, be prepared to remove the black coating as it will probably pop off when the tube is bent. I sandblasted the powdercoating off & repainted it silver.
My lever (NV-5600) appears to be hollow.
When designing the bends, keep in mind that moving the lever to the left may interfere with the ashtray, when open, & going into first gear. I designed mine to just miss the open ashtray.
All in all, I'm very happy with the outcome. Glad I did it. I'm kind of 'vertically challenged' & the bends place the shifter just a bit closer, & more comfortable, for me.
I also installed a shift knob from an older Chevy pick-up (SoCal Hotrod Shops). I always liked the shape & looks of those old shiftknobs. My Grandfather had one on an old Dodge from the 'fifties'. Had to 'chase' the threads with a threading tool to get it to fit but, it works great & I'm very happy with the results.
