Took the truck into the dealer this past Tuesday because the clutch friction point had worked its way up the pedal travel to almost the top. Long story short ..... The clutch slave cylinder failed, causing the loss of the flywheel and the clutch. Dodge is replacing it all on their dime since the truck is still under warranty. I drove my 04. 5 for almost 120K miles with no drive train problems. This 6. 7 only has 22K on it and is two and one half years old.

Your 04. 5 did have a DMF, that is the biggest longevity difference. If the slave cylinder had actually failed you would have hurt the trans trying to shift it and you would have noticed it was almost impossible to put in gear with the engine running. Mor elikely the DMF failed and started taking other pieces with it.

About the only failure that a slave cylinder can do is leak and that causes fluid loss or suck in an air bubble and that may make the clutch engage right off of the floor, not at the top of the pedal travel.

Can you get a look at the disc and clutch cover?

Disc, how much wear? Can you see the dust grooves in the facings, worn much?

Now the hard part, clutch cover, the 3 springs in the self adjuster. Fully extended, or ? This would benefit from a picture.

If the slave isn't leaking and you're getting a free clutch, just smile and say thank.

When the dealer turns this one over to Dodge after the repair I think there is going to be a problem..... rare to see a clutch covered under warranty.

Clutch disk yes, DMF no. DMF should be covered under warranty for the whole period. Might have been why the dealer diagnosed as clutch cylinder failure, save the hassle. However, if they don't replace the DMF there may be more issues. Depends on what it really looks like.
