I had the V06 done yesterday morning. I asked the service writer and one of the main diesel mech's about a replacement and I was told by both that there is NO replacement and that the tack welded nuts was the only solution. I don't know what to believe.

It’s certainly a mixed bag of answers.

It's ridiculous - but not surprising.

Curious as to what they will finally come up with, hopefully the welding is not going to be their final solution, but as said sure seems to a mixed bag of answers.

As said , no welding on mine, will see what happens in the long run. I have to believe many are sitting on the fence on this one .

Just had mine done - no choice since the 4wd broke and they must do this recall if the truck is there. The weld is OK - on 2 sides of the nut - both nuts. However they didn't do it correctly, If the nut is loose they are supposed to remove and measure threads. The nut was loose (a good two full turns) and they never removed the drag link to check. Easy to tell since both nuts for the tie rod end type joints are still just as muddy as when I brought it in.......sigh.....

I asked who worked on it - the same guy who overfilled the trans by 2 qts when doing the solenoid pack recall.

Dan, they cannot force you to do a recall. I took mine in and I have several that I refuse to allow them to do to MY truck. You can refuse them and there's nothing they can do about it. Now when you sell it they have to complete them all before they can resell the vehicle. I do have to sign a statement saying I refuse them each time.

my common sense tells me the draglink from 2019 models will be the final fix for older trucks. likely there isnt enough spare surplus yet to start installing them on older trucks however. ive said all this before but nobody listens.

I’m listening, and you could be right, and I’ll find out , as said a couple times before they ain’t welding on my truck.

Didn’t realize that, good to know. They stated if it is at their shop they had to do it

Crazy thing is, I've heard that trucks at dealers can't be sold unless recall is done. Seems there was a thread on here or another site about someone who bought one and couldn't even drive it home because of recall and state laws. Bought my '14 in March without recall being done, don't think they even looked. Nuts were loose. Nothing is consistent whatsoever.
Not surprising though, we deal with Freightliner on a daily basis, and do our own warranty work. We are constantly finding issues with their recalls and software...:rolleyes::mad::mad:

I got an appointment for my local dealer, through RAM. The rep told me, that the dealership would get the parts needed, and do the repair. Well, I get the appointment, 2 months later. Go to dealer, service adviser, tells me " we will inspect and weld jamb nut" "that's the repair" I discussed, very calmly, that I had already talked to RAM about this. Nobody was to weld on my truck, which is not a repair at all. This morning, I recalled RAM and now am being told this is the repair. That also I would have to go to the dealership, for inspection and "welding" of the part. Both advisers on the phone, refused to help me. The second also started getting hostile and started talking in his slang. Which was using words that don't exist He went on to tell me, I was misinformed by prior representatives, I spoke with. I asked to speak to someone else who would be able to better help me. The first advisor, who was polite, sent my call to a dead line. The second adviser told me he would have a supervisor call me back and then hung up. I am furious with how this was handled. I expect to replace the part myself, with an aftermarket part. Does any one out there have an address or phone number I could use to call FCA directly and vent about this any just possibly get this straightened out.

Unfortunately your service advisor is correct. Anyone who told you the recall is a new drag link was incorrect. A new drag link is only installed if the threads on the old one fail the inspection (i.e., way too loose of a fit). If the threads pass inspection, the nuts get torqued then welded. There is no indication that a secondary recall is forthcoming that replaces all drag links. Maybe there will be, maybe not. I find this unacceptable. I doubt there are many alignment shops that will cut and reweld the nuts as part of an alignment. If any do, I am sure they will charge dearly for it.

That weld is more of a tack than anything else. It’s not that involved or a big deal. It just prevents the buy from backing off. It can be easily broken free with a bit of grinder work for future adjustments if need be.

And then the alignment shop is going to reweld the nuts? Can't wait to see how that works out. I'm willing to bet most alignment shops don't even own a welding machine.
Last time I checked, welding ANYTHING is not cheap.

The welding is a tacky (Pun intended) way of addressing the issue. AT the cost of the trucks they should weld and gold plate it. I looked at my 07, and its the proper coupling with clamps. The bean counters caused this, and I'm willing to bet it came from Fiat.

If I were an alignment shop owner, I would not reweld it, and would have permission prior to repair to replace it with the proper coupling with clamps. The coupling would be included in repair, and the quote would reflect the extra cost. If declined, I would refuse the repair.

I would encourage everyone to call the recall hot line and tell them this is BS. I have been working it all day. I did not pay 75K of good money on piss poor product support. the y can have this one back and my 2012 JKU. i'm about ready to buy a Ford if this keeps up. This at best a mass confusion from all dealerships and even RAM HQ. I was led to believe this was an interim fix but then they guy on the phone tried top sell me that the NHSTA agreed to this a final fix. we shall see as he said he had to do more research and needed 48 hours.

I decided to fix mine..... with a new paint maker to redraw the line across the adjuster assembly. No welding for me. If it had loosened up maybe I'd feel different. Still running my original water pump too. if it ain't broke, I'll keep an eye on it, but unless the repair makes sense, I'll keep driving it. 50K miles so far. Only issue was a failed NOx sensor in the turbo outlet elbow that Ram covered after the warranty was up.

PS I'm still watching my track bar frame bracket also. Not letting them drill a bunch of holes in my frame to install a "reinforcement bracket" that I may not even need.

Funny, the adjuster jamb nuts did loosen up at about 10,000 miles. After resetting everything, they loosened back up a few thousand more. I attributed it to the high quality roadways here. I got some high strength Loc-Tite and put it on the threads and retightened every thing back up. The truck now has 44,000 on her and has not loosened up yet, I checked when I got the first letter. I am going with the Synergy unit. I also feel a letter to cooperate coming. I'll wait until my blood stops boiling.
