My New RIDE

Hard riding!

Yesterday, I pulled the trigger on a 2015 2500 Ram Truck (see sig). The driving difference is night and day from my old 2007.5 3500. The varied controls make me feel like I am in a spaceship and I am not all that fired up about the push to start.

Couple of questions though:
1. What type of guages do you all recommend? (I will be adding guages boost, pyro and transmission temp) I have had both digital and analog guages and I can do either.

2. Would you all recommend Edge CTS and does it touch any of the trucks programming? I know it will do guages plus a bunch more.

Thanks

Dawna

I would not waste a nickel on a single gage or programmer monitor or anything else! Drive it like you stole it. The computer will not let it hurt it's self.

Enjoy your new toy!

You do have a trans temp gage already from the factory. I went with ISSPRO factory match on my 2011, but I am not sure if they still match 2015 gages.

Your EVIC already shows Boost, Exhaust brake retarding power, oil temp, oil pressure, transmission temp, engine temp as well as filter life, oil life and the pressure in your tires. The only gauge that is not in the EVIC is pyro and if you leave the engine stock, it will never get too high. Unless you want to see everything all the time, most add on gauges are a waste of money on the new trucks.

I have a 3500 but I'm assuming the gauges in your 2500 Laramie are the same.

I'm a second gen owner, with a 4th gen on order. One thing I've found is pretty much no one recommends turning up the new trucks. Part of this is because they have so much power anyway, part of it seems that no one has put in the time to see what it's capable of. When I get mine I plan on just "living" with the 865 ft/lbs awhile and just driving it. After all, it's got more power already than my slightly bombed 2nd gen which has been serving me just fine for years.

I installed an Edge Insite in mine as I am an old fart whose eyes and mind are used to analog gauges that I know are in a "Normal" position at a glance and not have to read what it says on the EVIC. As Ron says all the info is on the EVIC, BUT on my SLT with 5.0 UConnect you can only bring up one item at a time. Am still playing with it to see what all I like.. Got boost in bottom center and EGT1 on left, I also like the little box which says what gear I am in and the Red R for regurgitate!!

The upgrade instrument cluster monitors everything essential except egt, as noted above. I have the Edge Insight, as I discussed in my TDR column, and use it to watch ten parameters that aren't on the EVIC. Anyone want to see fan speed? turbo slider position? fun and good to watch, but the driving force for me was egt, and as above, the engine won't hurt itself if stock.

Actually Sparks. We sparks broke stuff so twidgets had something to do.

No longer in Kodiak but still in Alaska.

Looks like I will be getting the Insight and an EGT probe just to keep an eye on what the engine is doing and to see when it Regens. I plan on leaving the truck stock.

Question about the CTS Insite: I have one of my gauges set on EGT1, which if I understand the diagram right, comes from a sensor just before all the EPA sh$t. To get a true EGT must I install a sensor probe just after the turbo?? With out such a sensor what would be the proportianal reading I am getting on the EGT1 sensor??? Have not towed yet but the highest reading I have gotten is just below 600 degrees..and with about 2 minutes idle cool down drops to less than 300..

All advise and/or comments will be appreciated
