Picked up new truck and I have a problem

Well, I picked up my truck yesterday and it has what sounds like a rattle under the hood. #ad
It also has a funny smell. THIS IS SO COOL! #ad
I can't stop driving the thing. I'm even making up excuses to go to the supermarket.

Hey, congrats. Can't speak to the rattle under the hood, could be the injector pump. I have read posts about the foam sound inserts at the back of the fenders not being in place or having slipped down. As to the smell, it seems that new oil in the motor seems to stink it up pretty good. It was present in my new truck, and after I changed the oil, it came back. Think of it as a better version of new car smell.

Ok its mostly the P7100 pump and maybe the valves make a little noise. #ad

I only smell diesel fuel when there is leak man are you lucky! #ad


Yes the big one makes noise too, but only when I open the hood.

I know wat you mean,Dave. I've had my rig since Dec'99 and mine still has the rattle and the stink! Got the wife a used '95,and she says it rattles too!

GOOD WARNING about the green pump but watch out. I have pulled up to two pumps that had a green stripe across them and had nozzel in hand before I realized it was not a diesel but a gas nozzel. Another thing that will mess you up is that all diesel nozzels are not big I have found a couple that is the same size as the gas. Just make sure before you you put any fuel into your tank

Yep, I hear ya, Dave. Got that same 'rattle' too, and a funny whiny sound that keeps people from cuttin' into your lane in the highway. The smell is also great for avoiding tailgaters. Just wait, when you figure you mileage the first few times, a 3 hour trip for a friend becomes ' not really outa my way!'

runs convinced her that diesels can move #ad
. Then she asked how I can make black smoke at will. After a short discussion on boost and fuel I showed her. Her face looked like this #ad
as I left a very heavy dark cloud looming over Rockaway, NJ. It's all good #ad
, couldn't imagine not owning a diesel now.
