My post was responding to john3976's, not yours.

They "own" oil in the ground if they hold the mineral rights to it. Generally, however, these mineral rights are held by those who own (or owned in the past) the property under which the oil lies. That's why the oil company who has leased the land for exploration and production pays royalties to the holder of the mineral rights.

Rusty

Oh Rusty, I really thought you were going to school me with your knowledge of who owns the oil... . frankly I'm a little disappointed...

Pay Peter and pay Paul and once all is said and done it is their oil... they (the big oil company) owns it... they pay taxes on it, they transport it, they sell it. And how much did that barrel cost them? Well, certainly the net cost per barrel varies, but it can be as little as $12/barrel (net) if not less!

You would not know a fact if it smacked you in the back of the head.

And John wouldn't know the truth if it smacked him in the back of the head. You are the most dellusional, over the top, obssessive person I have ever seen post here. You have no concept of how businesses make money, you have no concept of what a free market is and quite frankly you have no concept of what the real world is like.

If you did, then you would know darn well that if the gov't gets involved and starts jerking around with price controls, it's only going to get worse. Of course that doesn't fit "JOHN'S WORLD" so I guess it must not be true.

Just because YOU think it's too expensive, just because YOU think somebody makes too much doesn't make it so. I see that you have as of yet been too cowardly to tell us all what you make. I mean, it seems only fair that since you get to judge what some CEO's are making, we should get to judge what you make.

Rest assured, judging from your posts here if you do anything for a living that involves fact checking, intellect or judgement, you are probably being over-paid. I think its safe to say you don't own your own business that's for sure.

Without a doubt, you boggle my mind. :--)

Go Senator Kennedy! It figures. Another blowhard, not as concerned as he sounds. And phoo on Romney too. Six miles out? With the ocean haze, you won't be able to see these things at all. So much for really standing behind getting off foreign oil.

got a question. fellow told me the other day that the chinese have drilling rights off the coast of florida, but u. s company's arent allowed too. any truth to that? if so, W. T. H. !

I also heard that. The rigs that the Floridians will see will be pumping oil for our biggest potential enemy. Figures. We'd better watch it or the Russians will be drilling off the coast of Alaska.
