There shouldn't be any pageants for them to be entered in. Little Leage baseball and kids soccer may fit in the same catagory.

Nope. There are plenty of other more meaningful activities for them to be involved in without the emphasis on looks and popularity. They grow up fast enough as it is, why put them through that? I'd have to be 6' under before my daughter participated in that kind of thing.

Sports for kids are a good thing. . teaches teamwork, comeradery, physical fitness, coordination, and helps develope the cometitive spirit that drives most of us to succeed. It should only be done if they enjoy the sport though.

Pageants. . childhood and adolescence are hard enough w/o an audience. If the kids want to do it that's one thing but when parents live their dreams through a little kid that's another.

Yeah Mark, and let's not forget how it teaches the kids that adults are unfair and can't be trusted. Nothing like having to sit on the sidelines watching your talented kid and one or two of his friends, ride the bench because the sheriff's son and the mayor's son and the coach's son get more playing time. There's a few amateur coaches in this town that still won't make eye contact with me...

I worked in Boulder at the time the whole Jon Benet Ramsey thing went down. It gave me a lot to think about.

Personally, I think it looks like a dumb activity. I have no interest in it and would never participate. I'm even more grateful that my 12 year old daughter, who is beautiful, never got interested in that kind of stuff.

But you know what? I love to hunt. And I'm teaching my kids to hunt, use firearms, and enjoy eating wild game. And I'll just bet you there are a scad of people out there who would love to tell me they think my hobby is dumb, or wrong, and that not only would they never hunt, they would never allow their kids to do it, and would tell me I shouldn't do it and I'm a horrible parent for exposing my kids to it.

See what I mean? That kind of thinking comes home to roost.

I sure would jump in if I saw somebody clearly doing harm to kids, but you'll see me stop a long way short of criticizing somebody else's activities that I don't particularly like.

I'll mind my own business, thanks. I'm busy enough defending my own rights and lifestyle.

My 2cents,

JimD

Politics and children should never cross paths. It's unfortunate that somebody would stoop low enough to take advantage of children for personal gain or that a person of influence would exert pressure on a coach to the detriment of someone elses child.

I have a theory. . chidren are born prefect. . we @#$% them up or put them on the right track to succeed.

Think of the example the coach, sherrif and mayor are setting for their children. They may play more in the game but that'll probably be the pinnacle of their miserable life. They are being set up for failure. Daddy can't fix the outcome forever.
