Any need for a 1st Gen cold air filter?

Smarty 3G software update??

OK. I have now been able to enjoy/experience the Smarty for several days on numerous settings. In MY OPINION sw#1,2,3 are excellent, driveability and the ability to stack with my TST at different levels works extremely well.

SW#4,5 are very strong all by themselves under full throttle or hard exceleration, but under light throttle my transmission hunts, TC locks/unlocks, throttle response is erratic. When I add TST, full throttle is COOL!!!, but once again under light throttle, response(in my opinion) is too drastic and erratic.

SW#6,7,8,9 at WOT are just what the Doctor ordered Oo. If you add TST it only gets better, however, and I have to keep saying this is "my opinion", under normal driving conditions(light throttle) these settings are awful. No matter how easily you try and feather the throttle, taking off from a corner you bark the tires, throttle response is way too severe, transmission behavior erratic, I cannot relax and drive normal on the higher settings. end up with your soda pop in your lap.

Again, this is my observation and my opinion, I know some people want exactly what I do not. If I had to choose between the Smarty and the TST... :-{} TST would win out(ease of changing prog on the fly for 1).

I know Bob/Marco are listening and want objective feedback, They want to make Smarty better. :)

I agree, the lower levels are for the street/daily driving and the others are for the strip/sled pull. Also, on the fly adjustability would be great, TST here I come.

You may want to check your T/V cable. If it has slack in it try taking it up 1/16". I ran a 47RE valve body for a while and didn't like it and changed to a 48RE. The 48RE shifts much better on a modded truck.

My truck is getting better fuel milage with Smarty. I have not checked the numbers but it's enough to tell.

Question on footprint?

So ya stack TST and Smarty but one fine day it's off to the dealer. Does reloading the OEM software from Smarty erase all traces of TST as well??

The TST shouldnt leave any traces in the ECM since all the info its recieving from it is just minipulated back to stock values, the ECM thinks its doing nothing diffrent because of the fooled info its recieving from the TST. If you have a probe for an EGT on the TST then thats a dead giveaway when there is a hole in the manifold with a plug in it.

EGT Probe...Dealer installed for me...

But maybe not... ! There IS hope!

I actually had my dealer INSTALL my X-Monitor... So they know I have it and I am basically using it to keep track of engine temps while I tow and for shutdown cooling times. So, theoretically, I could add TST and the EGT probe would not be a giveaway. My dealer also has no problem with my straight pipe or aftermarket intake system.

I agree though, that the EGT probe could cause them to look a lot harder if you DID have any kind of major engine problem...

Of course, once I get over 100k and it is MY dime, my truck will have all kinds of fun!

I second the desire for a "tweaked" software to lower the light throttle smoke on lower SW numbers. Along with that a slightly less touchy throttle would be nice - don't get me wrong I like the go pedal, just don't want it to act like a floored it when i push it 1/4 inch.

I agree with you WOT, with my sps62 turbo, 3flow injectors and modded cp3, I can smoke out the traffic behind me when leaving the stop light on any setting on the smarty with the tst at 0/0 or 4/4 .

I would really like to see the smarty have custom programming per user. But I also think with modded trucks like mine the ideal setup would be :

Modified torque management like we have now with no fueling until the turbo hits 6 to 8 psi or so.

And somehow get the trans to stop hunting for 1st to 2nd back to 1st when leaving the stop light with a light foot.

I think it would be better if we got half our go pedal travel back. For instance, assign go pedal travel a number between 1 and 10. 1 being idle and 10 being WOT. Well, anywhere between 3 and 8 the go pedal is the same and seems to make no difference where you put it. Just a little go pedal puts you at 2500RPMs as though you mashed it to the floor. Give it 3/4 go pedal, let RPMs come up, and slowly back off the go pedal and you have to get almost back to idle before the truck cuts any fueling. It is almost like your not getting more low end fuel, your just feeding the ECM more APPS signal at initial pedal travel so the darn thing almost goes WOT just off idle. Smoke would be much easier to control I think if we had half the available fuel at half throttle instead of all the fuel. Did that make sense?

I dont have any of these problems, you really have to control your foot, it took me about a week to learn how to drive with the smarty and all is well.

Ditto, I'm on 60 hp with timing and never leave a cloud of charred fuel. The nice thing about my truck is the no throttle take offs.

Assuming your turbo is stock, I don't see anything listed in your sig, maybe that is the reason you don't smoke. I had a Catcher on my 02 and now the Smarty on my 05, so I am familiar with the driving style required with these programs. That being said, my truck WILL consistantly smoke from a stop no matter what.

I'm with you there. The throttle ramp is pretty agressive. Smoothing it out a bit would be great for me!

Ok, I have tried the 30, 60, and 90 hp softwares with tst at 4/4 and the truck is very impressive with each step up of smarty. Ive now got my nerve up, Ive got a 1 hour drive in the morning and I just finished programming 130 hp with timing and tst on 4/4. Here we go !!

I will report back asap

Well I tried a tank with the GPS hooked up and driving the way I usually do with a heavy foot. Mostly arround town with a trip to the hunting club running sw #4 and tst 4/1=17mpg and the odometer on the truck was only a few tenths different than the gps. The Smarty must have done its job. Not bad for a 7100 lb truck making over 500 hp. This tune rips! The last time at the strip with sw #4 tst 3/1 and va3. 1 100% went 13. 15. TST 4/1 is a noticable jump and the Sledpuller just spools a little harder to keep things just as kool. Can't wait to see what this tune does at the strip.
